American Express Shop Holiday Gift Guide For Small Business Saturday

Every year American Express runs Small Business Saturday, this program was designed to increase American Express acceptance rates across small businesses by helping to support and promote these businesses. Originally when it launched cardholders were offered credits for spending money at small businesses, but that stopped happening. This year it returned earlier in the year with American Express’ shop small promotion due to COVID-19 (that has now ended).

This year there won’t be any small business Saturday credits but instead they are offering the shop small gift site with products from small businesses. American Express states that users will be able to “exclusively redeem at attractive redemption values”. I suspect this won’t actually be that useful, but let’s wait and see.

So.. it’s Saturday, but on that site I don’t see a way to “exclusively redeem at attractive redemption values”. Does anyone?

I did takeout from local restaurants with the $5 x 10 offer earlier this year.
Gave the $5 as the gratuity on the order.

So far all the ones I frequent are still in business. Fingers crossed!

I considered the $5 x10 promo that came out earlier this year to be the small business promo. It was a welcome addition since the past few years had little or nothing for this.

I regret not creating authorized users for my dog name Bubbles. Would have been worth the many $50.

I’m all for maximizing free stuff, but I thought the 5x$10 was well done: clear incentive to shop small, not easy to game, also not so rigidly policed that people are scared to use it or can’t figure it out.
