American Express To Refresh Everyday & Everyday Preferred Cards? [New Card Designs]

Update: Now says ‘Same Card, New Look: The design of your Card has been updated in your digital account. Nothing else about your Card has changed’ so a refresh is perhaps unlikely.

Briefly today the American Express app was showing new card designs for the Amex Everyday & Amex Everyday Preferred card. This has spurred speculation that these cards are the next to be refreshed as American Express ambitiously announced plans to refresh 40 products this year. The first sign we had that the Gold card would be refreshed was the new white gold card design so I’d be surprised if these cards aren’t going to be refreshed at some point soon.

Old transparent EDP is the only card I’ve used where someone has complimented the design.

Boy do they need a refresh too

They usually do the redesign at the same time as the refresh. Also, seems like they wouldn’t say:
“Same Card, New Look: The design of your Card has been updated in your digital account. Nothing else about your Card has changed”
if they were planning on refreshing it very soon…

I guess I’m the only one that misses the transparent design 🤣 that’s ok, I’ve always been the outlier everywhere.

What would really be cool is if Amex let you choose which card design you want, a la Discover it (love the “wood grain” texture of the original), or Frost Bank debit cards (no patterns, but you do get choice of color)

The area around the Centurion is still somewhat transparent. It kind of pays homage to the original Blue/Everyday transparent design.

I’ll be excited to see it in person! I know the Cash Magnet and BCP are fully opaque, but if they do something like the BCE, that will be a nice change! (So far the grey/white/silver look-alike cards from other markets are fully opaque.)

No, I miss it too. 🙁

I don’t like the new card. Wish they would let us choose like how Discover does.

I lost my Blue Cash Everyday a few months ago and requested a replacement card and they changed it from mostly transparent to mostly solid blue with a hint of transparency. I guess they’re changing the designs on the rest of the cards too.

My card expired and they sent me this blue design a while ago. It’s the design they have on the web page. I think change from transparent happened a while ago.

This post is about them possibly changing the design yet again.

Unless I’m misreading what you wrote, the Blue Cash Everyday/Blue Cash Preferred are different products than what this post is about. Those moved to the “Centurion-on-the-left, logo text-on-the-right” design already (BCP in 2019, BCE in 2022) to match the Cash Magnet.

These two were similar to the old ones (transparent, but with a silver holographic square), but were introduced in 2014 and earned MR points. The benefits haven’t gotten better, so this seems to be just a cosmetic revamp to bring them in line with the Cash Magnet/BCE/BCP.

(It’s always been confusing talking about these, as Amex has “Blue Cash Everyday” and “EveryDay” and “EveryDay Preferred” cards – including different capitalization!)

Blue Cash Everyday (different product line) was refreshed in July 2022, and seems unlikely to get updates anytime soon. I’m not sure offhand when the Blue Cash Preferred last got an update but I doubt it’s on AMEX’s 2024 to-do list. Seems like the card’s in a decent spot (unless AMEX wants to raise the AF above the current $95)

The bigger question is what kind of SUBs are we expecting here. Back in its heyday, Amex used to run 30k incognito offers on the EDP. I hope this time they give us at least 60k MRs SUB so that it can complete with the likes of CSP and Strata Premier.

I think I got 35k back in 2019 iirc, after a few tries in incognito.

$15,000 spend seems to be the going rate nowadays.

I refuse to use my everyday because it’s so hard to read the print on it. Clear was a bad idea.

Yeah, the Everyday cards IMO are true contenders for the ugliest card contest – maybe back in the day the design was considered avant-guard, if so that ship has sailed. It would be nice if AMEX would drop the FX fees on these cards – I mean for goodness sake, BILT, VENTURE, AUTOGRAPH nor DISCOVER have an FX fee. Not sure the purpose of the card if they don’t make it at least competitive.

I hear you, but if you are traveling a lot that incurring on FX fee is an issue, Amex has plenty of other (better) options to use that EDP card (Gold + Platinum) where you would get a much better deal/reward. Those examples (Bilt, Autograph, even Discover) don’t have a heavy travel card (like Amex, CapOne or Chase) do

these refreshes usually come with a hefty fee increase and marginal benefit upgrades

Same Card, New Look: The design of your Card has been updated in your digital account. Nothing else about your Card has changed and you can continue to use the Card you have today.
