Update 8/30/24: Ends tomorrow.
The Offer
- Receive a 20% transfer bonus when you transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles. The standard rate is 1:1, so this means it would be 1:1.20. So if you transfer 1,000 Membership Rewards you’d receive 1,200 HawaiianMiles.
The Fine Print
- Valid until 8/31/2024
Our Verdict
Previous transfer bonuses were as follows:
- January 1 – January 31, 2023: 20%
- February 7 – March 21, 2022: 20% bonus
- June 7th – 21st, 2017: 25% bonus
- June 6th – 21st, 2016: 25% bonus
- December 8th – 21st, 2015: 25% bonus
- June 11th – June 23rd, 2014: 20% bonus
Full list can be viewed here. Might be useful if you have a plan for the miles but I wouldn’t recommend a speculatively transfer as you never know when devaluation will happen.
Marriott took the deal from Alaska and bough Hawaiian over the holiday weekend!
Hilarious if it were true, but great if we get people believing it
MEAB did a good post on the topic. Transfer is highly likely (90% imo) so I will be doing this….
But the problem is we don’t know when the Hawaiian deal will close and, then later, when the points will be combine-able.I’d guess 10-12 months, but who knows? In the meantime, you’re putting your now transferable points into a non-transferable “weak currency.” All.for 20 percent? If you have a million AMEX points, sure, you can be a gamer and throw 100,000 points into that. But for 99 percent of frequent flyers, I think the risk exceeds the reward.
While HA is weak and its a non transferable, no guarantee AS will ever be a transfer partner. Guess that’s the hope.
Well that sucks, could have used this a few weeks earlier.
Now if we only knew if the merger will happen…
