It seems that the option to transfer to AirFrance/KLM Flying Blue is not available in the Amex transfer partner list right now (found another comment on a different blog with the same issue dating back about a week). Anyone else have this problem too? Transfer bonus ends today, so great timing…
Fantastic deal. I just booked roundtrip open-jaw business class Miami to Madrid returning Lisbon to Miami for 112k AMEX points + $90 taxes. Flights were over $7k cash price.
Just booked BER-ORD premium economy for 30K points + $270 (24K with Amex bonus) during high Christmas/NYE season. Oddly the search tool was pricing premium economy cheaper than regular economy.
Last Year’s Virgin Atlantic Europe deal was incredible. It was 50,000 points one way to Paris CDG. AMEX then had a transfer bonus of 40% or so to Virgin Atlantic. So I redeemed two First Class seats for under 70K points last year. Hoping another deal like this comes around.
Horrible reward redemption. Even with 25% bonus, it’s outrageously expensive versus the actual ticket price.
It depends on the flight. Some are a great deal and others aren’t.
Funny how many people take no more than 1 minute to research this before making such assumptions.
nice, I just cancelled my other flight to Europe. found a LAX -> Amsterdam -> Bilbao for 15500 KLM plus $78 in fees.
13000 amex points. idk compared to how insane united, delta and American are these days with rarely any flights to Europe sub 40k, this feels like a sweet deal.
checked bag included also
The taxes and fees on Flying Blue are too high, has to be an exceptional award for this program to make sense.
lol theres awards for 34k + 200$ to Europe in J Class. Thats pretty good deal with the past couple years of devaluations.
I just found a one way from Paris to MIA in March for 12,750 points. With the bonus that’s only 9500 points plus $165 in fees, plus the ticket is refundable for a $50 fee. Cash price for this is $1662. Best other option is AA for $854, but it’s not refundable. 9500 points plus $165 for a 10 hour flight from Paris is a steal.
I’ve also flown several flights for 34K r/t plus $180 total.
Note that one-way fares to/from Europe are always higher compared to RT.
Flyingblue used to have good redemptions during the pandemic but haven’t seen a good deal from west coast recently. As mentioned, the taxes are high as well 🙁
You are not wrong. Their usual mileage prices are ridiculous, if I was to compare it to former United award flights to Europe, where it was not overly difficult to find 30K one way flights with the fees around a $100; again pre the recent devaluation.
Where Flying Blue excels is exactly what the other two have mentioned in their replies. You can literarily get flights to Europe starting from 11K in points plus $200+ fees, if you can fly during “off season”. There is no better options currently, other than maybe AA, which does not have a hub at my home airport and their international destinations are not aligned with where my family tends to go.
Was fantastic for a last-minute flight from JFK to Paris, about 2-300 in fees and 300k points. Escpecially considering that all other options were ~$1500 nonstop. Booked about a week or so ahead.
300K points vs $1500–or did you mean 30K?
