American Express Transfer Bonus: 35% To Marriott (1:1.35)

The Offer

  • Some American Express members are being targeted for a 35% transfer bonus to Marriott. Normally you can transfer 1,000 Membership Rewards points to 1,000 Marriott points. Under this promotion you’d receive 1,350 Marriott points.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 12/31/24

Our Verdict

Previous transfer bonuses for Marriott have been:

Even with the transfer bonus this isn’t worth considering as American Express MR are much more valuable than Marriott points.

acknowledging that marriott points have low value, for someone with lots of amex points and a few marriott trips on the horizon, i’ll take it. i agree that chase points are better spent on hyatt.

Yes, but Chase points are much better spent on Hyatt.

Could not agree more.

Hyatt redemptions are often 3x value, so even better than 1.5 cpp (CSR) or 1.25 cpp (Preferred) when booking via Chase travel portal.

Marriott is breakeven at 0.8 cpp, so even with 50% bonus, that’s just 1.2 cpp. Only transfer Chase to Marriott if you really need to top-off your Bonvoy points.

Not for everyone, it depends on your travel patterns. Hyatt has hotels in way fewer locations than other brands. So for people who mostly travel to out-of-the-way places, Hyatt can be hard to use.

I have to force a Hyatt stay this year just to use up a free night cert. Mostly I travel to out-of-the-way places, or stay near work sometimes, and neither of those have Hyatt hotels.

Out-of-the-way? Those are usually the better places anyway! And there are plenty of options closer to home, too, depending on where you are based.

Redeeming Hyatt points for an high-category award stays is still a sweet spot, like 20-40K points for a $1,000+ room.

See the Park Hyatt in NYC, Chicago, DC, Paris, Sydney, Maldives; or Alila properties in Big Sur, Napa, and overseas.

The up-to-Category-4 free nights are not my favorite either, but usually you can get a $200-300 stay for the cost of your Chase card’s $95 annual fee, so still decent.

Until Hyatt devalues their program, they’re still the best at this in my book.

About time. Best rate since 2021. It’s not great, but I have been waiting.
