• You can currently receive a 40% transfer bonus when you transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors points. Normally you can transfer 1,000 MR points and receive 2,000 Hilton Honors points, during this promotion you’ll receive 2,800 Hilton instead (1:2.8)

Our Verdict

You can find the full list of current and previous American Express transfer bonuses here. We haven’t seen as many transfer bonuses as we normally do and that’s somewhat surprising given that a lot of airlines and hotel chains are trying to raise cash at the moment due to COVID-19. Here are the previous Hilton transfer bonuses:

• February 4th, 2019 – Unknown: YMMV deal for 10-50% transfer bonus
• September 27th – November 30th: YMMV deal for 30-50% transfer bonus
• January 2nd, 2018: Transfer rate increased permanently from 1:1.5 to 1:2
• October 24th – December 15th, 2017: 33% transfer bonus

Targeted promotions:

• December 6th, 2018 – Unknown end date: 30-50% transfer bonus 
• September 27th – November 30th: YMMV deal for 30-50% transfer bonus
• October 16th – November 30th, 2014: 33% bonus (going from a rate of 1:1.5 to a rate of 1:2)
• December 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013, 2013: 33% bonus (going from a rate of 1:1.5 to a rate of 1:2)

This is one of the better transfer bonuses offered because it’s a flat 40% instead of previous ones where not everybody was targeted for 50%. That being said I still think American Express Membership Rewards points are far more valuable than Hilton. Obviously how useful this promotion is will depend on how you value Membership Rewards points and Hilton points.
