American Express WeWork Benefit: Everything You Need To Know (Parcels No Longer Being Accepted)

Update 6/17/19: Reddit user DespicableCasual received an e-mail stating that WeWork will no longer accept parcel deliveries of American Express customers.

Update 3/27/19: An e-mail has just been sent out about this benefit and in that e-mail it clearly states that guest access is not allowed:

Guest policy

This membership does not include guest passes. However, if you book a conference room, you are allowed to sign in guests for the duration of the meeting. Guests must also be registered in advance.

Previously we indicated that guests were allowed to be brought in as people were bringing in guests without issue. It will be interesting to see if WeWork is now enforcing the no guest policy or not.

Original post: American Express Business Platinum cardholders can now sign up for a one year membership to co-working space WeWork. In this post we will share everything you need to know about this new benefit.

The Basics

  • Enrollment link
  • WeWork membership is valid for one year after enrolling (doesn’t look like this will be an ongoing benefit for cardholders)
  • You must enroll by 12/31/2019

Membership Length

After signing up you receive membership for a full year, plus the end of the month. For example if you sign up on March 1st, 2019 you’d receive membership until March 31st, 2020.

Access Restrictions

After you sign up at a WeWork location you’ll be given a keycard. The F.A.Q states you’re only given access from 9AM until 6PM Monday to Friday local time. People have been able to access WeWork locations outside these hours and even on the weekend by using the keycard.

Guest Access

This membership does not include guest passes. However, if you book a conference room, you are allowed to sign in guests for the duration of the meeting. Guests must also be registered in advance.

You’re allowed to bring in guests with this membership, but it’s not clear what the guest limit is (or if there is one).

F.A.Q

What happens if I cancel my business platinum card?

Fine print says you need an active business platinum card to keep your membership, with other benefits (e.g Priority Pass lounge access) this is usually enforced.

Final Thoughts

Obviously we still don’t know much about this benefit, I’d love to know more so please share your experiences in the comments below.

I now use the WeWork benefit w Amex business platinum. It’s working great and enjoy working there. I run a remote working company for design consulting so it works great for me and other remote members who use their own space.

In my experience we work is so chill, I really like it, they dont even bother looking at who’s coming or not. I just walk in and done.
Amex said they’re testing as to what to do with it next year,. Maybe Will offer some discount I guess.

I pre-register the guests using the WeWork mobile app and haven’t had any issues with these guests being denied access. I also never recieved any email about guest access limitations on the free WeWork for a year Platinum AMEX promotion.

I’ve been going to Wework now with this membership in Manila and now Tokyo. Manila was very laxed on the guest policy, I was able to bring one or two, but Japan is very strict. When I brought a guest in Tokyo, they kept insisting I needed to book a meeting room. They let me go as a one time courtesy. And also I noticed immediately after 6 and on weekends my access card does not work, whereas it worked 24/7 in Manila. So it could still be YMMV, or that they recoded it across the board.

How did your card work 24/7 in Manila? There’s no way to reserve the weekends that I’ve seen.

Has anyone signed up/collected their key for the first time in person at an international location with this benefit? I have no locations remotely close to me in the US but if I show up in Paris tomorrow am I good to go as long as I pre-resgister online?

Numerous times when I needed a desk I tried to reserve at the only location that would work for me and was told that all the seating is booked up. People book out all the desks a week in advance so this benefit has been of little use for me when I realize I need desk access 2 or 3 days prior. In the end this benefit doesn’t justify me keeping the card open so it will be closed.

They have a FAQ here:

https://www.wework.com/businessplatinum

You can’t bring in guests unless you’ve booked a conference room, which is $25-50 per hour. They confirmed this in person also. I pretended I didn’t know the policy and tried to get in with my wife, who just signed up and had registered me as a guest. They did let me go up there with her to look around, so I still got a free coffee out of it 🙂

P2 completed registration w/ WeWork membership from AMEX benefit on 2/18. Canceled AMEX Plat Biz 2/22. Received invoice from WeWork 3/1 indicating membership is active 3/1-31 with waved monthly balance. P2 hasn’t tried visiting WeWork since canceling card but this indicates membership is still active even though she canceled AMEX last month.

P2 received an email 3/4 from WeWork saying “Please Add Your Payment Info” regarding the Plat. Guess she has a free ride until 3/31, but not after.

My wife just signed up and got the Payment info email too. It’s meant for in case you want to book conference rooms, etc. because they are not free. Her card is still open, so this doesn’t meant that you’ll be canceled on 3/31. Guess we’ll have to wait to find out what happens with your account.

Is P2 still able to get WeWork access? I just cancelled my plat biz last week but would like to still use WeWork sporadically when I travel if it still works.

Any DPs on WeWork membership being active even after CC cancellation or product change?
Based on what I read on the front desk not checking the members when they enter or leave, wondering if WeWork will really cancel the membership when CC is canceled.
