I used to have an Ameriprise brokerage account years ago. Profile still existed when I logged in so even though I don’t have any open accounts, I should be an existing customer. I opened the bank account and will report back if I receive the bonus.

Instead of just the added note, wouldn’t making the title “(Existing customers only)” be better?

It also got added to the “best list” without any such note.

Ameriprise has run three Savings promotions so far:

1st promotion: available to new or existing Ameriprise Bank Savings Account.

2nd promotion: available to new or existing Ameriprise Bank Savings Account. Offers are only available to existing Ameriprise clients as of June 30, 2024 who have not received a savings bonus in the past 18 months.

3rd promotion (this one): available to new or existing Ameriprise Bank Savings Account. Offer is only available to existing Ameriprise clients as of September 30, 2024 who have not received a savings bonus in the past 18 months.

If you are not an Ameriprise customer, it makes sense to become one now (if nothing has changed: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/ameriprise-financial-200-500-savings-bonus/#comment-1873291), so that you will most likely be eligible for their future Savings promotions.

fine print says “Offer is only available to existing Ameriprise clients as of September 30, 2024 who have not received a savings bonus in the past 18 months.” so likely rules out new customers 🙁

i think so. you would have to have already been a client by 9/30/24 for the promotion that started 10/1/24.

So did anyone get clarity from Ameriprise? Eric 🔗 ShawntheShawn👈🏾 …Shawn is the one that brought this to our attention and seems he stated that indeed available to “new” customers… Jbr JBR, so Ameriprise said no for new customers?

theSam,

It seems that you misunderstood the comment from ShawntheShawn👈🏾. I read his comment as suggesting that people should sign up for an Ameriprise account now so that they are possibly eligible for the next bonus.

I believe that he was confirming that my interpretation of the terms is correct, without saying that. I am pretty sure that he will chime in if I am wrong. Hopefully, he will also chime in if I am right.

theSam, Eric is right that I wasn’t saying new customers are eligible, I was recommending readers to become an Ameriprise client now to make themselves potentially eligible for the next Ameriprise Savings promotion.

can someone please do the real deal math, looks like this work out to approx $240 bonus if you compare to keeping $35,000 in a 4.5% apy savings account…assuming you move the 35k in around December 27-31st

Jonny $240 sounds about right. $236 If the we hold the funds for 95 days.

$220 assuming the base rates remain 3.5% and 4.5%.

Which is a big assumption. The higher rate seems likely to drop more but who knows?

Jun

What are you talking about?

After doing the math, keeping 35k for 90 days earns 289$ at 3.5% and including 350 bonus would total apy 7.3%

290 for 90 days holding 35k at 3.35% apy
350 bonus

640 total after 90 days

Comes out to 7% apy

glad they allow EXISTING customers to do this. However, since most of us did the previous 500.00 bonus, we are excluded as we fall in the 18-month window. Great for new folks. My bonus of 500.00 for myself and P2 were paid in Jan 2024.

I interpret this as both new and existing members are eligible.

It states a “new or existing Ameriprise Bank Savings Account” will qualify.

Similar to past Ally 1% match bonuses or the recent First Tech CU $300 bonus (for existing members), you can’t have had any savings bonus in the last 18 months AND the required balance will be 9/30/24 balance PLUS the $35k.

So if you’re an existing member w/o any bonus in the last 18 months then you’re eligible as long as you deposit $35k + 9/40/24 balance by 12/31/24 and hold through 3/31/25.

If you’re a new member you have to open and fund $35k by 12/31/24 and hold through 3/31/25.

anthonyjh21,

I noticed that also.

However, in the passage that Wayne highlighted, it shows “Offer is only available to existing Ameriprise clients as of September 30, 2024″.

The passage that you highlighted shows new or existing Ameriprise Bank Savings Account”.

That is a subtle but very important difference meaning that new clients are not eligible.

Hmm, I think you’re right.

Would be too much work to include in T&C “New clients are not eligible.” 😵‍💫

I might try to reach out to support tomorrow to get clarification, but then again they’re oftentimes just as confused as we are.

Why would they put that clause in when they can just deny bonuses for all of the DoC readers that blindly signed up as new clients without reading the terms and/or comments? 😁

@anthonyjh21 Is the First Tech CU $300 that you are referring to the standard checking offer or did they have a savings offer? I couldn’t find anything online about an existing members bonus.

anthonyjh21 Brad

There are 2 different ways to tag people on DoC. They are described below.

#1. You can enter “@ guest 1930452” (without the spaces). I pulled that # from the last comment that I made. That will tag me. However, the issue with this way is that most of the time (at least in my experience), the tag does not work properly due to a flawed comment system and will show up as “@ guest 1930452″ (without the spaces” instead of “Eric”). The way around this is to then edit the comment and press “Post Comment”. “Eric” will then appear. The issue with this is that I will not receive an email so the tag will be mostly wasted.

#2. You type in “@ Eric” (without the space) and then click on my name and a guest # will appear. Tagging people like me this way is easy because I have a gravatar. Yesterday, I tagged 3 different “SG” names in the HY post because I didn’t know which one of them that I was replying to as none of them used gravatars.

If you do #2 correctly, it should appear like this: Eric 🔗

Any questions?

The First Tech CU is the checking account correct.

William Charles just a heads up, you can only get 4% with a balance of $250k+. If you deposit $35k, the APY is currently 3.25%
