  • Special Offer Rate: 200 Amex Membership Rewards Points transfers to 140 Virgin America Points

Fees

When you transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards to a US frequent flyer program there is a fee of 0.06¢ per point up to a maximum of $99. Meaning if you transfer 10,000 points you’ll pay a fee of $6.

Is It Worth It To Transfer Your Points?

Virgin America points are worth a fixed value of 1.6-2.3¢ per point depending on the fare type and itinerary, when you normally transfer to Amex you’d get a value of 0.8-1.15¢ per point. During this promotion you’d be receiving a value of 1.12-1.61¢ per Amex Membership Rewards points. When you take into account the fee of 0.06¢, the maximum your points will be valued at is 1.55¢.

Personally I value my membership wards points at more than 1.55¢, so I won’t be doing any transfers for this promotion. If you decide to transfer, let us know in the comments why and what you plan on using your points for.

Have pending points? You can call American Express Membership Rewards customer service on 1-800-297-3276 to clear the points so you can transfer before the end date of 31st, January 2014.
