[Expired] Amex Offers: $50 off $50 at Hulu [Targeted, $25 Money Maker]

This deal has expired and is no longer available. Never a miss a deal by following us on Twitter or by signing up for notifications.

There is a new offer available now with a new expiry date. Thanks to reader MarcoPoloFM for making me aware of this new offer.

The Offer

Check your Amex logins for the following offer:

  • Get a $50 statement credit when you spend $50 or more at hulu.com/start/amex

The Fine Print

  • Valid through April 23, 2018
  • Must enroll by September 23, 2017
  • Valid online only

Our Verdict

Remember you can turn this into a $25 money maker with Swagbucks. In the past it has also worked to sign up for this Roku Express deal as well (just keep in mind you’re not going through the official landing page required so no American Express offer will trigger, but it has in the past). Easiest way to get to the $50 total is by adding additional channels such as Showtime.

This is an excellent offer, basically giving you some free months of Hulu. Some people aren’t seeing the offer while others are seeing it on many/most of their cards. If you have multiple Amex cards enrolled in this offer, you can potentially get the next nine months free if you can get it to add up in $50 increments.

I see three different Hulu plans: 1) with commercials for $7.99/month, 2) without commercials for $11.99/month, 3) Live TV (beta) plan for $39.99 per month.

If you only have one card with the offer, you might choose the first option and get six months almost free – the sales tax should push you a bit over $50. If you don’t have sales tax, switch to the premium plan on the sixth month to push you over $50.

If you have multiple cards with the offer, choose the $11.99 plan and put four months of charges on one card (tax should push you over $50) and another four months on a second card, for a total on eight almost-free months of service.

The terms say to use the URL hulu.com/start/amex, though I expect any ordinary Hulu charge will work too (this matters especially for existing customers who don’t want to open a new Hulu account).

I enrolled a number of my AmEx cards in this offer and received the credit on one already, after which I changed the card on my Hulu account. I was looking back at all my AmEx offers added to card earlier today and noticed that the offer is no longer visible on any card. Any data points on getting the credit even though there is no longer any evidence that the card is enrolled? Thanks!

i had the same thing happen to me. just spent 50 on another amex card only to find the offer removed and I didn’t take a screenshot when it was added. ugh. never had this problem with adding more than 1 card to an amex offer before.

Can I get Hulu for like a month, take 2 months off, restart it, and all the charges will still be good for the Amex offer? Or does it have to be a nonstop subscription?

@Chuck
Well…..I made you aware of this update on June 29th ……… more than a month ago.
But it looks like you don’t read your own OPs comment on this blog but prefer FM.

No worries William 🙂
I don’t expect you or Chuck to read each and every comment.
My only point was that an update soon after June 29th would have benefited more people.
Keep up the good work.

Yeah it would have, not sure how I missed that one. Feel free to also always e-mail me ([email protected]) if you notice something that needs an update and I don’t respond to a comment.

Are you sure the monthly Hulu subscription fee is considered an “eligible purchase”?

Not sure why I can’t reply to my prior thread, but just for anyone thinking about doing the roku 4 months offer through the Hulu link, it may very well be expired apparently despite the Hulu link still letting you sign up and having NO mention of any specific expiration date. See:

https://www.roku.com/offers

Which lists a 3/15/17 expiration date.

Thank you!

Interestingly, at least the Hulu live chat people think that the deal is still live, and they confirmed that I should be receiving my Roku Express. We’ll see.

Just chatted once. Even if I get 0 Roku Expresses, that will be ~$6 loss across all 4 accounts. I can live with a $6 loss, and my time is definitely worth more.

So, today just got 4 emails subject “Your Free Roku Express Is On Its Way” with 4 USPS tracking numbers (when I look them up in USPS they say label created, package not yet received by USPS).

So it looks like the Rokus are coming. I’d still say this is YMMV.

Did you get the email thanks for using Amex offer if we sign up thru this link. https://www.hulu.com/start/roku-4month

For me Amex offer lists to sign up at hulu.com/start/amex

Austin, my understanding with such offers is you WON’T get an email from Amex until you’ve reached the offer minimum of $50.

So, I did NOT get such an email yet, as I have not yet spent the $50 (but should get this within a month as I will have spent $50).

In any case, my understanding based on the consensus on here and slickdeals is that it doesn’t matter what entry portal you use, as people seemed to get the deal with the last Hulu Amex Offer even if they simply changed an existing Hulu account to bill to their Amex card.

Hope this helps! Obviously, everything is YMMV (especially getting the Rokus, although it seemed to work out for me).

007, thanks for the informative reply. I made a hulu account thru swagbucks’s link with my AMEX (offer 1/2). While I cant successfully make a new Hulu account thru 4month-roku account, because I used the same AMEX card. Any ideas to remedy this? Thanks in advance

Austin, you’re welcome.

Only thing I can think of is to report your Amex Card “lost” and get a new card with a new number.

That is kind of a lot of work & hassle for a YMMV offer though (as, per Roku at least, the offer is expired, although it worked for me).

For the future, I use virtual credit card #s (Citi) for all Swagbucks offers, as I don’t really trust most of the merchants (I guess Hulu would be an exception, but still…)

Hi 007. This offer is still valid https://www.hulu.com/start/roku-4month. Based on the info from slickdeals, several datapoints claimed they already got their shipping notifications recently.

I just chatted with hulu rep. I’d like to cancel my subscription after day 9 to get fully refunded as long as I watch less than 5 shows. What if I cancel my hulu account? Will it be eligible for me to become a new subscriber? And then eligible for roku offer?

Hi Austin,

Interestingly, it looks like Roku has deleted the 4 months Hulu offer completely from their offers page:
https://www.roku.com/offers

In any case, it worked for me, and it worked for others on Slickdeals, so hopefully it would work for you, but there is no guarantee. That is why I personally consider it very YMMV.

As far as your proposal to chat to close the account, I honestly don’t know.

I’ve never tried using the same credit card number twice on Hulu.

Good luck!

Thanks 007. IMO, this is a hulu’s offer rather than roku’s. look at the domain–hulu.com

Austin, just FYI, previously it was in BOTH places (on Hulu AND Roku).

I realize that I did it after it officially “expired” on the Roku side and it worked.

If you are planning to pay for Hulu anyway, I don’t see any disadvantage in using https://www.hulu.com/start/roku-4month to sign up.

Personally, I don’t use Hulu at all, so if I didn’t get the Roku it would have been a $1.50 loss per account (not huge, but not a moneymaker).

Just FYI. Probably it will work fine, but I personally didn’t feel like there were any guarantees after I saw that the same offer (previously listed on the Roku offers as well) listed an expiration date of March 2017 (and now has disappeared from the Roku side).

Also, in case it is helpful, all of my Rokus came from ZIP 95035. Not sure whether that corresponds to a Roku or Hulu warehouse or something else entirely.

Did you get Amex $50 back, I see you got Rokus, but how about Amex getting triggered? No one on this page has reported back on having got the Amex $50 back after paying monthly with the Amex.

Got all 4 $50 credits.

FWIW, I’ve never had a problem with any AmEx Offer crediting except the very latest jet.com offer – for the jet.com offer, I had to chat with them after 10 business days, and they then manually credit the offer within a day or two.
