Our Verdict

We see similar offers come and go; this round of $750/$50 is from the better we see. I’m seeing this offer on my business cards. There are usually promo codes to save on shipping and/or activation fees, let us know what promo codes you see in the comments or any tips for maximizing this this deal.

When you pay for Amex gift cards with an Amex card it’ll count toward a spend requirement but will not earn points, I believe.

Worked for me when buying a lifetime Plex. Otherwise, yes having trouble finding where to spend the rest. So many rejects…..

These are great for getting a discount on federal taxes.

Expect, however, to read a bunch of posts from morons complaining of how difficult they are to use and talking about the CFPB.

Until they are not. Not worth the chance. Good luck.

No, actually it’s a free $50 off your federal tax bill, minus the $2 debit card fee. You can do it twice.

The whiners here will moan about the CFPB, but whatever.

Federal tax processors view Amex GC as a credit card, not a debit card. Plus my GC has been declined so it doesn’t work.

Did you actually make it work? Which tax payment system did it work? Even if they charge the credit card processing fee, I am still willing to buy Amex GC. But last ime I tried Amex gift card on federal tax payment system last January, none of them worked.

Does it work on PayUSAtax? Or paying property tax?

I agree with others. A lawsuit should be brought against these “prepaid card” issuers who impose an increasing number of ridiculous restrictions on what charges will be authorized. They misrepresent (i.e. false advertising) the ability of these to be used for purchases and Amex seems to be the worst of the worst in terms of restrictions. I get blocking things that prevent people from turning them to cash but they are difficult to use for all sorts of legitimate payments. That being said, if you do have a place to use them then this is not a bad deal.

do not get these. impossible to use. I ended up filing a complaint to CFPB and Amex cut me a check and disabled them. I was able to keep the offers but would not do it again.

I bought the ecard and used “WELCOME” to get the fees waived. I tried to use the full amount for a charitable donation but it was rejected. I lowered the amount and it went through. Looking at the balance I discovered that there was a 10 cent pending charge that prevented me from using the full amount.

I tried to order a second card and it keeps rejecting my phone number. I ordered yesterday using that number, which I’ve had for over 15 years!

“I’d recommend paying with a Visa or Mastercard” And how do you do that with an Amex offer saved to a specific Amex card?

Darn, I was hoping to learn a new trick. No worries, though. You guys provide so much good info that a few glitches are bound to pop up. I’ve never bought Amex GCs, I suppose they would work at Walmart SCO? Anybody confirm? Thanks

Nothing on amex blue. Don’t use Amex card as much these days but previously churned a lot of gift card deals equal or better than 5%, so not surprised.

Paying with a Visa on an Amex Offer will be tough but I’ll try it…
