The Offer
Check your AmEx Offers for the following deal:
- Get a one-time $30 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to make a single purchase of $55 or more on a BJ’s Wholesale Membership in-club, online at bjs.com/amex, or through the BJ’s Wholesale Club mobile app by 11/13/2023. See terms.
The Fine Print
- Offer valid on a BJ’s Wholesale membership purchased in-club, online only at US website bjs.com/amex or through the BJ’s Wholesale Club mobile app.
- Excludes fuel and gas purchases.
- Please note if you purchase a membership, unless you notify the merchant that you want to cancel or that you do not want to auto renew, your membership will automatically renew for another membership period (subject to applicable law) of equal length (for example monthly, or annually). This means that the merchant will collect the then-applicable membership fee and any taxes by charging a credit card the merchant has on record for you without notifying you, unless notification is required by applicable law.
- Valid only on purchases made in US dollars.
Our Verdict
Nice savings for BJ membership purchase.

I made a purchase online using a 1-day guest pass for third party physical gift cards. Got the email from Amex, but no credit after 7 days. Offer still shows under available so not looking promising.
How much was the gift card for?
3x$25 discounted, so a single $67.47 charge to the card.
Still did not get the credit? and offer is still under Available tab?
seen recent posts of not getting credit and offer still available
still no credit and showing under available.
For future reference — I did eventually get credit for this. It just took way longer than usual, over a month for the credit to show up.
Does any purchase online work, Ie $100 gift card?
Has anyone tried buying 3rd party gift cards in-store to see if it triggers the deal?
It shouldn’t matter. It’s just a purchase of $55 or more.
Chuck this is a bit more useful than it sounds: I can provide 2 DPs now both successful: An online renewal as well a BJs gift card purchase in store on 2 separate Amexes that both triggered the offer (no emails). I am now seeing the actual $30 credit. The gift card purchase was for the exact amount of the membership renewal which may or may not be the reason for the successful DP: Just to be safe suggest people buy any variable load GC for the amount of $55 plus your state tax on $55 (if you don’t need to buy a real membership that is). Of course if someone buys for exact $55 and it triggers that would be best.
Both of those are very interesting!
I also have two positive data points. I spent ~$58 on P2’s card and got the credit, and today went back and bought a $55 BJ’s gift card with another AU’s card and got the email instantly. For some reason, P2 never gets AMEX Offer “redeemed” emails.
Sadly, I do not have the offer on any of my cards. Maybe because I’ve used a card at BJ’s previously?
Did you receive the $30 credit back on AU’s card as well?
Memberships are taxable in NY, so the charge is going to be more than $55 there. I made a $60+ purchase today, will see if I get the $30 back.
HarryTheFirstHarry,
I have this offer on my Amex card and it’s expiring in 2 days. My BJ’s membership ended the end of October. If I want to trigger this, should I renew while logged into BJ’s or should I go through the Amex link and enter the same email address that I’ve used for sign up?
The only reason I am considering doing this is I have a $10 off coupon that expires this month. Of course, I can’t use it if I don’t renew.
Also, are you aware of any better offers either separate for this offer or that could be stacked?
I am planning to open the BJs membership with offer – “Join for $20 and Get $20 Reward after spending $60”, basically free membership. Here is the link – https://www.bjs.com/content?template=B&espot_main=minisite_fbhigh202060&bjext=&lob=mbsp&chl=pdso&vnd=fbad&dt=20230329&tcz=sta&opz1=
To spend $60, I will buy $60 BJs gift card using one of the Amex cards where I got this offer “Spend $55 & Get $30 Back”.
Hopefully it all works.
That is a better offer that you found. However, the problem for me is that it shows “only good for new members”. Do you think that is actually enforced? Would I need to use a new email address? I wanted to renew instead so I could use my $10 off coupon, if possible.
The terms for the $20 Reward exclude gc so your plan probably won’t work.
I might wait a while to see if a better offer comes along as the holiday season approaches.
So basically this boosts the upgraded membership levels, since there are $20 and $25 offers for the base membership flying around. (I think I have three postcards that are within their validity period)
What’s the easiest way for current members to take advantage of this, if their membership doesn’t happen to be up for renewal between now and 11/13/2023?
CtownBin I can’t confirm since I’m already on the BJ’s Club+ membership level, but check to see what occurs when you visit that link while logged in to your account regarding upgrading. Maybe you can upgrade from the basic tier to the Club+ tier (which should be more than $55). Note that this is NOT the credit card, it is BJ’s upper level membership like CostCo Executive.
Club+ gives you 5 cents off at BJ’s gas plus 2% membership earnings per dollar spent. If you spend a lot at BJ’s, you can definitely make it back in the rewards from the 2%. It adds up quickly.
Wait till 11/1(BJs memberships end at end of the month you buy in, so if you buy on the 1st you effectively get 13 month membership). Buy a new membership with a different email address, use your Amex card with this offer saved. Use the new account signed into their app in your phone. If you want a physical card, stop at membership desk, they will print you one.
Oh and MAKE SURE YOUR AUTO RENEW IS OFF. This can be done in your membership settings page from the app or website. Be very careful in store, I’ve used self checkout a couple times where after scanning card it showed a big TOUCH TO CONTINUE button, but above that was a paragraph about enabling “Easy Renewal” and a tiny little box that defaulted to checked. Very very sneaky.
BJ’s doesn’t care at all about membership renewals/multiple accounts like this. Now Costco is a different story completely.
Thanks for the idea. But I’m trying to figure out what would happen to my old membership? Let’s say it’s set to renew in July- then I’d be paying for 2 memberships until then, which would wipe out any value from the AMEX offer discount, no?
I loaded this offer couple days back and paid for renewal online yesterday with the Amex. Will report back to see if it credits.
Will also be buying GC in store for exact amount of $55 to see if that works and report back.
Early DP: Looks like online payment to renewal counts: I have not got credit yet, but the offer disappeared from my available offers list which indicates it could credit. Will also confirm when it does post.
Also made the GC purchase instore with another Amex for exact amount of the membership renewal renewal payment and will post on that later in the week.
Please let us know when you find out about the GC purchase
It tracked! No credit yet, but the offer has disappeared from the “available offers” which means it should credit. BTW I did get a BJs GC for $55+tax to trigger this (Any variable load for this amount should also work). The renewal BTW is now showing up under “redeemed” and the credit should post in a couple days. So that is confirmed.
Thanks.
thanks
Any update on getting credit back?
