AmEx Offers: Get 10% Back on Expedia Hotel Bookings

Update 1/7/25: Deal is back and valid until 4/7/2025.

The Offer

Check your AmEx Offers for the following deal:

  • Earn 10% back as a statement credit after using your enrolled eligible Card to make purchases of prepaid hotel bookings (“pay now”) online at expedia.com/amex by 12/19/2024. Limit of $100 back in total statement credits.
  • Others got 15%, up to $150 in statement credits.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid for pre-paid hotel purchases made online through the following link expedia.com/amex using the pre-paid option at checkout (“pay now”) only.
  • Excludes “pay at property” purchases and purchases made over the phone.
  • Excludes all other purchases not made at expedia.com/amex link using the pre-paid option at checkout.
  • Excludes cruises, vacation packages, flights, car rental and activities, trip insurance and other 3rd party brands. American Express identifies qualifying transactions based on information provided by the participating merchant.
  • Offer valid only on purchases made in US dollars.
  • Offer only valid on purchases made directly with the merchant. Offer not valid on purchases made using third parties, such as resellers, delivery services, or other intermediaries.

Our Verdict

Nice savings for prepaid hotels bookings. Typically going through a shopping portal would work as well; while the terms say to go through the AmEx link, this historically has not been enforced with other similar offers.

0/6 cards, no dime this time. Last time I maxed out this promo on one card.

Noticed that the price of hotels is lower when booking on expedia directly than visiting expedia via the AmEx link — exact hotel, exact dates and room etc.

Well, I guess that 10% comes from somewhere…

@z I’ve done this Expedia AmEx offer numerous times and have never found your statement to be true. Perhaps you were looking in one browser with your OneKey cash applied and another browser with it being excluded? I have noticed that the Expedia Amex link automatically excludes your reward cash. (though the option is there to apply it if you want)

Like Chuck said this is a nice little savings on hotels that you don’t get any price/benefit advantage by booking directly. Thanks for sharing!

If there were more pay now and refundable options would be better to use this, but as-is might as well just use Rakuten or a portal since it’s about the same.

It used to be my go to site until they changed their reward program. Now I avoid them, with their fees they are typically higher than other sites like Priceline or Agoda. Although they price match on the hotel price, they don’t price match on the fees. I would recommend avoiding Hotels.com as well as Expedia unless you get an offer like this one..

The last time they had this offer (late in 2023), one had to go through the link specifically, otherwise it wouldn’t work. So no stack with portals.

Update on this. The last time I took advantage of this (in 2023), I was unable to stack a cashback portal with the Expedia offer since it required using a specific Amex expedia link.

This time in 2024 (a week ago), I booked using the Amex Expedia link but then activated Rakuten via the Rakuten chrome plug-in. Got the Amex credit from the amex offer, and also received the Rakuten points.

Would it work with the delta stays website? I’m guessing not but both are Expedia.

stack with Rakuten you get 20% (10%raku+10%amex)… normally, id book through Agoda because its always cheaper than Expedia. this changes things
