The Offer
Targeted offers, check your AmEx offers to see if you’re targeted
- Get 15% back as a statement credit by using your enrolled American Express card at Starbucks by 12/03/2019. Valid in-store at stand-alone Starbucks locations and for app reloads. Limit of $5 in total statement credits.
- Others got the same offer, but for 10%.
The Fine Print
- Valid in-store at stand-alone Starbucks locations and for app or online reloads at Starbucks.com.
- Valid at participating locations in US and US territories only.
- Excludes Starbucks within the following locations: i) retail stores, department stores, supermarkets, malls, outlet malls, ii) hotels, resorts, casinos, convention centers, cruise ships, theme parks, iii) airport terminals, train/bus stations, highway rest-stops, iv) hospitals, military bases, office buildings, and university/college campuses.
- Excludes delivery orders, Teavana Brand, e-gift card purchases, and all gift cards purchased online.
Our Verdict
I got the 10% offer on one card, others are seeing 15%. No one is getting rich on $5, but for a lot of people this is free money since they go to Starbucks anyway.

This might be worth posting about if everyone got the offer. I didn’t and never get any useful Amex offers and I have 7 Amex active cards. . BOA offers on the other hand are always useful.
Amex has been very stingy lately. Even this one is 0/9
Got it on Amex Hilton Honors Surpass
0/6 for me…amex no love
I ’spend‘ over 20k from last month on amex card ,never a good offer

A reminder to anyone who doesn’t know: the Cash App debit card is worth keeping in your wallet just for $1 off all Starbucks purchases (or tx at ANY coffee shop). With my coffees being $2-3, it’s just a flat 33-50% off.
I totally agree with this, but I keep a balance loaded on my starbucks app for mobile orders and other promotions. Strictly speaking Cash app is the way to go, but I find some use out of the Chase/Amex offers and the occasional Raise sales.
You can use the Cash card to load $5 onto the Starbucks app and still trigger the $1 off!
To that end I did a breakeven analysis (I drink a lot of coffee) and it was still cheaper for me to just pay per transaction rather than load $5 each time and combine the $1 off with Starbucks rewards….but with different ordering habits you may derive more value that way.
Do you have to do this in store? Do you have to buy a $5 gift card or can you trigger the boost by loading directly to the app in store? Thanks!
Old post but I recently learned that you can get the $1 boost on each Starbucks mobile order… all you have to do is log out. Use the guest checkout + Apple Pay in-app.
I’m a regular, too. So did your analysis compare the stars earned by paying via the app (not as a guest) compared to using the Cash App card (as a guest)?
Highest redemption of stars is to 150 stars for $5.15 breakfast or $4.75 handcraft coffee and you earned 2 stars for every dollar spent. so cashback 6.3%~6.8%. Other starbuck offer will increase the cashback to 12% I presume. Adding starbuck GC would add another 5% ~ 10% cashback. Plus credit card 1%~4.5% cashback. All in all I guess it would be around 12%~20%.
I haven’t used Cash app yet but sounds like you will always get 33% off as long as you buy coffee that cost < $3.
Holly Molly, I am a SB regular but never knew this debit card thing. Thank you so much Mike B, need to get this ASAP.
But for lot of people coffee boost is locked out after 5 uses. Any ideas to unlock with least spending?
