Check your Amex logins for a new offer at Starbucks:

Get 15% of your in-store purchase back as statement credit each time you use a registered card at Starbucks, max $5
Other cards are showing a similar offer with 10% back instead of 15%

The Fine Print

Expires 9/30/17
Valid in-store only at stand-alone Starbucks locations
Valid at participating locations in US and US territories only
Not valid for online purchases or mobile app reloads
Excludes Starbucks within the following locations: i) retail stores, department stores, supermarkets, malls, outlet malls, ii) hotels, resorts, casinos, convention centers, cruise ships, theme parks, iii) airport terminals, train/bus stations, highway rest-stops, iv) hospitals, military bases, office buildings, and university/college campuses

Our Verdict

This not being valid for mobile app reloads makes my wife sad. Paying through the app and getting stars (or what) is ~10% if no bonuses present, but there are always some bonus. And if you pay with CC you don’t get stars (at least that’s what she told me), so the 10% offer I got is actually worse than just reloading her balance.

But AFACT in-store gift card purchases are not excluded, so she could buy a GC and apply to her account?

In the meanwhile BofA put similar offers on a 3 of our cards what was good on reloads as well. Not sure what was is now, but it’s always something like 5-25% up to $5-$10 back. (That offer probably shows up on the other banks with the same offer backend as well.)

I got the 10%, but would like to know if it would work for buying a gift card and then loading that onto the Starbucks app. Anyone have past experience? Otherwise I’ll be the DP.

I bought a $50 gift card in the store & got the AmEx notification that I successfully completed the offer. I later applied the gc to my acct w/ no problem.
