- Offer only valid on room rate and room charges.
- Offer not valid for lodging stays that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date.
Our Verdict
Pretty nice offer here, just remember third-party bookings won’t work for this since the charge has to go through Marriott. In the past, gift cards purchased at the Marriott desk also triggered the Amex Offer, despite the terms excluding it. Not all Marriott’s have gift cards or know how to process them, so keep that in mind.

I actually got this in my SPG biz card but it expires and I’m checking in today. Not sure it will make the cut. Maybe the security deposit will trigger it? Will see if they have GCs… it’s a gaylord
For what it is worth a this is almost over: my two stays at different Fairfields with each <$200 did result in the usual amex email about the offer being used. So it appears the $200 threshold does not have to be crossed with one charge.
just the DP I was looking for. Thank you.
Anyone successfully use it at a Tribute hotel? Terms don’t exclude it but charge did not trigger the email..
Purchased $200 gift card and it triggered the offer. Staff had not sold gift card before so had to wait 10 min for manager to arrive. Took manager another 10 min to process gift card.
Oh, interesting. I saw one recent report that a gift card purchase at front desk did not work. Also, has this worked for anybody if $200 was met on two stays ?
Which Marriott brand was the hotel?
I think it was an actual Marriott. I’ll try to get some GC at daily getaways tomorrow, instead of rolling the dice at the FI I am currently staying at. It is the same discount.
This just appeared on my Amex Bonvoy card today. Seems like the Hilton offers from a few weeks back – wait a while and it may show up on the better card
stupid question, but does it work on non Marriott but Bonvoy point earning hotels like ex SPG hotels (St.Regis, Westin, etc)
It should, except for Marriott Vacation Club®, Design Hotels™, Protea Hotels®, and Marriott Executive Apartments
Booked a Marriott stay on an OTA, 3/19 – 3/26. Added offer on 3/26. Charges for incidentals posted on 3/27 and credit of $40 was applied.
Can anyone verify if it has to be on one stay or if it is able to be split with other stays.
This is my DP:

Thanks for the data point.
If it shows up for multiple cards, can I do it multiple times?
Probably not as it appears to be account restricted (vs card)
If it’s under a different SSN, yes. Otherwise Amex will likely claw back.
Thanks! Added to my Delta card. Not ideal for earning points, but I’ll take the $40 on a ~$300 Fairfield stay.
