The Offer

Check your AmEx Offers for the following deal:

  • Get a one-time $50 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $250 USD in one or more purchases on room rate and room charges when you pay for your stay at participating properties in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio from 4/15/2022 to 6/30/2022. Book at Marriott.com. See terms.
  • There’s another offer some are seeing for $100 statement credit with $500 spend. That offer is for Marriott luxury properties.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid only on room rate and room charges at participating Marriott Bonvoy® properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories, the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico.
  • Reservations must be made online at Marriott.com, via the Marriott Bonvoy® App or by calling 1-888-236-2427.
  • Excludes The Ritz-Carlton®, St. Regis®, EDITION®, The Luxury Collection®, W Hotels®, JW Marriott®, Marriott Vacation Club®, Design Hotelsâ„¢, Protea Hotels by Marriott®, Marriott Executive Apartments®, Homes & Villas by Marriott International®, and Vistanaâ„¢.
  • Excludes gift card purchases.
  • Not valid for online retail purchases, hotel amenities, or purchases of Marriott Bonvoy® points.
  • Qualifying purchase means a purchase at a participating Marriott Bonvoy® property made during the offer period with your enrolled American Express Card and which is in an amount totaling at least $250 USD as posted to your account, following conversion from a foreign currency, if applicable, in accordance with your Cardmember Agreement.
  • Offer not valid for lodging stays that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date.

Our Verdict

In the past, purchasing a Marriott gift card at the front desk has worked to trigger the AmEx Offer credit, despite the terms, which is useful for locking the discount into the future. Just note, the front desk person doesn’t seem to always know that they have gift cards to sell.

Anyone know of any Marriotts in NYC that still sell physical GCs? Called at least 20 hotels so far and still no luck.

Does anyone know of any property in the Houston, TX area that sells physical gift cards on site ? I’ve purchased before at the Marriott Woodlands Waterway property but was told they no longer offer physical gift cards on site.

If the total exceeds 250 only after taxes and fees, will it trigger this offer?

Chuck, I appreciate you posting these offers. On that note,, have you or any of your readers seen ANY Mariotts sell giftcards post COVID? I had bought them at front desks pre COVID (and triggered these offers) but all the front desks now tell me that giftcards are only available electronically.

Has anyone seen Marriott front desks still sell giftcards or should I still keep asking when I check in each time???

Thank you in advance!

We purchase them from the Ritz gift shop in Southern California with no issues. Just did a purchase on Sunday for $500 and it did not trigger the email. Waiting to see if it will be eligible for the Amex offer. It has in the past every time they’ve run it.

> Offer not valid for lodging stays that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date.

The wording confuses me a bit – does this work if I pre-pay NOW for a stay AFTER Jun 30, 2022?
I understand the PAYING must be between 4/15 and 6/30 but does the STAY need to be during that time too?

Same question for me. I have booked a reservation for the JW in DTLA June 30th- July 4th on prepay rate. But will the prepay be posted on time during this Amex promotion, or after? Already booked this reservation last month, so far they have not charged the card I currently have on file. Will my card be charged and posted in time before this promotion ends or only after I check out?
