[Expired] AmEx Offers: Save 10% On Expedia.com Prepaid Hotel Bookings

Deal has ended, view more Expedia deals by clicking here.

Update 4/15/24: Deal is back through 5/3/24. This time you can get up to $125 in statement credits.

The Offer

Check your Amex Offers for the following deal:

  • Get 10% back as a statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to make purchases of prepaid hotel bookings (“pay now”) online at expedia.com/amex by 12/31/2023. Limit of $100 back in total statement credits. See terms.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid for pre-paid hotel purchases made online through the following link expedia.com/amex using the pre-paid option at checkout (“pay now”) only.
  • Excludes “pay at property” purchases and purchases made over the phone.
  • Excludes all other purchases not made at expedia.com/amex link using the pre-paid option at checkout.
  • Excludes cruises, vacation packages, flights, car rental and activities, trip insurance and other 3rd party brands.

Our Verdict

Nice little savings here; we’ve seen similar (better) deals in the past. This should work on the regular Expedia site as well (despite the terms) which makes it possible to stack along with a shopping portal (update: counter data point here). Our friend Tim at Frequentmiler points out that this can potentially be a nice stack with the deals that usually see from Expedia over Cyber Monday.

Hilariously, the hotel I am looking to book at allows prepaid bookings on the regular Expedia site, but not the Amex Expedia site. Kind of bizarre the Amex Expedia site even lets me proceed with the booking, given that it will not be eligible for the offer.

Anyone who use the amex link can you please share how the charge appears on your statement? I’m wondering is it very different then when you don’t go from their link?

It shows up the same whether you use their link or not, but you only get the cashback by using their link. I made the mistake of making a second booking without going through the link, after previously using the link and getting cashback for a first booking. No cashback for that transaction. I refunded and re-booked using their link. However, the refund clawed back part of the credit I received from the first booking, so the net result of my second booking was zero cashback.

It’s actually very different. Dan post above from the amex link does not show “Expedia.com” on the transaction. If you don’t go from amex’s link, it does. I was also told by Amex CS that they process the charge differently hence why it looks different when it post and that’s how they can tell.

Just a FYI to double check the quoted price with using the amex special website/link and without. I noticed that Expedia jacked up the price by ~15% when using the amex link for some hotels for the same dates.

BTW, using cashback site and paying with Amex did not trigger the 10% back.
Only the cashback showed up.

Does anyone have experience using the /amex link and then activating a Swagbucks or TopCashBack offer etc, on top? TCB looks to also be paying 10% right now. That seems like a nice stack, but I wouldn’t want the two to cancel each other out and end up with nada.

wow, and no language about only booking within the US like the normal Amex language

Beware, this did not track for me last time around. I had an email confirmation from Expedia, etc. Bonus never tracked and an investigation with Amex resulted in nothing. Never got the bonus.

Same here. Received Amex offer redemption confirmation email but ended up with no bonus. Had to call twice and customer service manually honored the bonus.

Did they have to open a case and escalate it for you to get the credit?

One has to visit Expedia.com/amex to use this offer. I went to the regular Expedia.com site in the last round of Expedia offer and booked a prepaid hotel. But my purchase didn’t trigger the amex offer. After chatting with CS, he said that I had to use the /amex link to be eligible.

I second this, unfortunately. They seem to be enforcing the link closely and customer service wasn’t able to help after the fact (nor did they let me know that they’d concluded their investigation without multiple chats/calls).
