- Valid only on purchases made in US dollars.

- Excludes purchases from third party or affiliate websites linked with/from walmart.com or grocery.walmart.com (such as, but not limited to, Walmart Contacts, Walmart Checks, Walmart Photo Services, Walmart Stationary, and Walmart Moneygram).
- Excludes bulk gift cards & e-gift cards, in-store purchases, layaway purchases, insurance services, auto services, pharmacy transactions, protection plans, and recurring subscription services (for example, Walmart+ memberships, Beauty Box and Baby Box).
Our Verdict
These offers seem to be for Platinum cardholders only. There was a similar offer for Platinum cards in late 2021. I wonder how they decided who gets the points offer and who gets the cash offer.

Will this work at walmart neighborhood stores?
I’ve got 5 additional points up to personal Platinum. As soon as it’s up to 1,500 points, looks like the amount of spend to maximize the bonus is $300.
From all the comments it looks like that purchase of a plastic gift card (Walmart or another one) online would trigger the offer. Could anyone please tell is that correct or highly YMMV?..

I got $10 off $40 (2x) on the Platinum card (including authorized user) earlier. So, nothing for me this time.

Interestoingly I got $25/50 on both the Platinum and it’s authorized user Gold
Really looking forward to when Amex opens their first Walmart x Centurion lounge.
I am really hoping to see a Walmart Platinum Card soon, where we can redeem at 1.1 cpp at checkout. The Centerion Walmart Card will include Sam’s Club.

I don’t see why this couldn’t be used for gas at Walmart-branded stations and Sam’s Club when using Walmart Pay. I’ll probably just buy 3x $40 gift cards just to play it safe though. 12.5% return is still good for Walmart.
Flynn, let us know if the gift cards work as purchases. Don’t see the offer on my Plat but it will be nice if so, since we are really your typical Walmart customers and spend tons of $ there.
edit: Someone in the replies here said “I bought a physical $50 Walmart GC online and just received the “Great News!” email from Amex, so those seem to trigger the offer.” so maybe it’ll work!

Yes, physical gift cards from Walmart.com trigger these offers. The last one was more lucrative for me as it was $10 off $40 x 3. This time, the additional cardholders who weren’t targeted last time got $5 off $40 x 3. As an AMEX Platinum cardholder, I’ve been using Walmart+ a few times a month for 2 day delivery. Things like charcoal fluid and trash bags are often cheaper at Walmart than on Amazon. I was more interested in getting discounted gas, but that can be difficult if you’re not near a Sam’s Club (where they work with the App). On the road, Sam’s Clubs can have long lines and inconvenient locations. The Walmart GCs also work at SOME Murphy stations and the odd Walmart gas station, but they are few and far between in most parts of the USA.
Got $25 of $50, stocked up on sunscreen and received the “You used your enrolled Amex Offer.” email within 4 hours of purchase.
1/8 Schwab Plat. $5. Boring.
