ANA added a new option to redeem miles for Amazon gift cards or Macy’s gift cards – 12,000 miles gets you $100 gift card which give a .83 cents-per-point value.
Not the best redemption value but good to keep your options open. This should also be a backdoor way of redeeming Membership Rewards points for Amazon at .83 cents. Again not enticing, but interesting to keep in mind given that MR points are not easily converted to cash.
Hat tip to MEAB
if your looking to cash out amex points .83 is the best option i think. Another option is 1.00 for home depot or .75 via aeroplan. yet another option is etihad rewards card transfer but i dont understand how that works for sure.
Has anyone found out where to retrieve the gift card/code after you redeemed your points? I’ve sent an email to them, but they have not responded.
website completely changed. took forever to find the way to get the amazon codes as instructions have not been updated. You can now find it under “my menu” “benefits/japan domestic flights” button.
Glad I found this message, but I still can’t find the link to retrieve the amazon code. I just remember I registered for the code before my awards expired, but forgot to get it. Any more help on where to find it? I looked all over!
still very hard to find it. I cannot locate the code.
I don’t think you structured the article very well, honestly, and left out important info completely. You should have led with reminding people (or informing for the first time) that ANA miles have a finite expiration date and you can’t get around it…..sooooo what is absolutely a terrible redemption under any other circumstance might actually be a good “out” for some people. Just a suggestion….
Article? Structure? There are barely 100 words in the post.
Sometimes there isn’t enough info available at the time of posting and the comments become informative. The finite expiration has already been mentioned.
I didn’t read the other comments. Glad they pointed out the expiration thing too. DofC is a great site and they’re no strangers to the details of the game. Surely ANA mile expiration is not a new thing to him. So yeah, the “article” should have included and led with that (the “structure”). It was constructive criticism and I stand by it and how I said it.
Given the hard expiration (no way to bump the balance) on ANA, this subpar redemption does seem attractive. There’s a lot of value in ANA, but I’ve repeatedly come up against the 3 year deadline. Too many other opportunities
not a new thing.
No Thx I will keep redeeming Biz or first class … and around the world ticket…
AMAZN gift card … you must be joking
Yes if you are lucky enough and got the Talent to find availability with them. Not me for sure because I’m so bad at it and I don’t want to risk my points with them for expiration 🙂
Done a round the world ticket 2017, fly round trip First class from NYC to Tokyo in 2019, got ticket for Nov 2021 (later cancelled because Asia not yet open), Got Biz/First ticket for this Nov…
You just need to be flexible on time, I found 2 Biz tickets for my sister in law from west coast to Japan in Dec and they don’t like the schedule…
My preceptive is I will accommodate the flight… some people consider redeem a 90K ticket worth 5-6K is not worth to compromise
Good for folks like me with orphaned expiring ANA miles.
These option and redemption values are not new. They existed for about a decade. They were just hard to find on ANA’s obscure website. I have redeemd my miles for Amazon GC a few times over the past few years.
Interesting
How often does ANA have a bonus for Amex MR –> ANA transfers?
I don’t ever remember one. I’d be all over it if they did as I tend to use ANA for business to Europe.
I get so much value out of those 88k RTs. The thought of people redeeming them for under 1 cpp makes me sad.
I state my number of MR by how many business cass trips to Europe I have. Getting harder to find though.
Good luck finding saver space on carriers without YQ passed down to you.
