Avoiding Fees
The Totally Free ExtraValue Checking  has no monthly fee.
Apple Bank does not make their fee schedule public, so we’re unable to check to see if they charge any early account termination fees.
Our Verdict
The biggest problem with this bonus at the moment is that we don’t know whether it’s a hard or soft pull to open the account. If you have an account with Apple Bank, please let us know in the comments. Because of this I wouldn’t recommend this bonus at the moment, especially with there being much better bonuses out there already.
Link and/or deal seems dead.
I called in now, and it looks like I’ll have to open in branch. Will report back on how that goes.
Clicked on the direct link yesterday, and filled out the form, no call back yet. Guess it’s because of the holiday season. Oh well, if their branch staff manually reviews the transaction then I just don’t feel like chasing this one. They must be chex inquires sensitive as well I guess.
Only chexsystems pull. Direct deposit is manually verified by branch staff so YMMV. No early termination.

Done, thanks.
I ended up applying, in branch, was somewhat awkward and tedious. Tried two Chase transfers, I guess neither was recognized as a DD, did not get bonus.
Hard/soft pull?
Thanks for the post. Yes, we just need to clarify soft vs hard pull and to find out what qualifies as a DD.
Still advertised on their homepage as of Feb 2016
Looks like there isn’t a way to apply online
