April Round Up: $25 Winner Announced, $125 Donated To Charity & Posts You MUST Read

It’s the start of May, which means April has been and gone. Just before the month ended we let you know we’d be running a competition every month where you could win $25 if you subscribed to the newsletter. We’re pleased to announce that, Ohio (ohio***@gmail.com) was the winner. I’ve sent them an e-mail asking them to let me know how they’d like to collect their prize ($25 in paypal or amazon gift gards).

randomorgWe used number.org to generate a random number between 1 and 110 (the number of subscribers we had when the draw was run), it came back as 101 which means the the 101th person to join our newsletter was the winner. If they don’t collect their prize this month, it’ll automatically jackpot till to next month and make it a $50 bonus.

We also committed to giving back to charity each and every month. This month we decided to give $125 to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). If you don’t know about the EFF they are a fantastic organization that does a lot of consumer advocacy and legal work. They focus on digital & electronic based rights, recently they’ve done a lot of work with regards to the NSA spying saga. If you have a suggestion on who we should donate to next month, then please do so in the comments section. We donate a minimum of 10% of this blogs income to a different charity each month, we will also start putting a link to the current months charity in the sidebar with some additional information to help get them some exposure.

Our Best Posts For April 2014

April was our biggest traffic month, thanks in large part to a bunch of new posts that got a lot of traffic. Our post on getting $200 from BMO Harris got a massive amount of traffic through a URL shortener and we were never able to pin down the exact source. People also found our post on viable alternatives to vanilla reloads & bluebird to be helpful after CVS stopped selling these with credit cards. T-mobile with reloadits seemed to be the most preferred method, but with Safeway no longer selling to those purchasing with credit cards it’s hard to see that remaining the case.

A lot of people were opening Chase checking accounts this month, which made our crazy detailed post on Chase coupon codes our most searched for article. Most people seemed to follow my lead and take advantage of the $400 on offer, which was added to my “how I make money in 2014” list (currently at over $1,500 for the year and that’s without any credit card applications!).
