Our Verdict

Nice discount, looks like this is meant to be a long-term discount as no end-date is shown. Not sure if the military discount is new, but the the teacher/doctor discount is a new thing. Unlimited Elite comes with HBO Max.

You might find AT&T more expensive than other carriers or you might find postpaid more expensive than prepaid, but along with the 25% discount it may well make sense to switch. Keep in mind that you’ll get a hard pull when signing up for new postpaid phone service.

If you are signing up for new AT&T service, be sure to check out the various shopping portal options when signing up online. Hopefully it’ll stack.

Had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get my plan of 20+ years into my (now ex-husband’s) name to originally get the Military plan. That’s been around for awhile and blew my former teacher discount out of the water. Glad to see they added teachers onto this plan now. For those saying I already get 30% (which I think my former teacher plan was) this comes off all charges. So I get 5 lines unlimited data, after taxes and fees, etc….comes out to $140. I pay less now for more lines and unlimited. It’s a pretty good deal.

I just switched to AT&T’s Unlimited Elite plan and added this 25% discount.

Previously I was receiving a 22% AT&T Signature Plan discount from signing up with my college alumni association’s .edu email address, but that discount only applied to my Mobile Share plan’s $110/month fee, not to the $15/month fee for each of 6 lines. Reading the terms of the healthcare discount, it sounds like it will apply to the whole $240/month Unlimited Elite plan including the 6 lines. So even though the pre-discount the Unlimited Elite plan costs more, after the 25% discount on everything, it will be a similar net price for a much better plan, if things work out as anticipated.

Thanks again!

Chuck, this looks like they expanded the military discount to those other groups. Summary from 2018: https://themilitarywallet.com/att-military-discount/

If it’s like my 20% employer AT&T discount, the discount is applied only to the base price of the primary line. It turned out surprisingly small.

This takes it off the data and line cost

I’ve heard bad things about Firstnet from coworkers. I’ve heard great things about T-Mobile’s discount available to some of the same groups of people.

T-Mobile is horrible with call quality. Things are much better on ATT.

Wow. I am flabbergasted that ATT is doing something nice.

There is also a $250 prepaid MC/line switch BYOD promo going on right now, not sure if it can be combined

Thanks for this. Do you know if the $250 prepaid card offer stacks with the cashback portals?

Sorry, haven’t tried. Even if you try a portal, 250 promo can’t be negated.

Right, worst case the portal won’t post, so nothing to lose. Will report back if I try, though it will be a while until I know for sure.

I suspect the $250 WILL stack with this teachers/doctors deal. You should always be able to call in later and have the 25% discount applied with employment verification once the reward card is cashed out, no?

I don’t have autopay set up on my current account with Verizon. From what I have read there is no way to use my 2x$20 plat credits with autopay on AT&T. Is there an easy workaround? (With Verizon I just pay $20 twice a month towards my bill but don’t have autopay with them either) I realize it is only $200 since it will end in December but it’s still $200. I was planning on going to Consumer Cellular which uses AT&T’s towers but think using AT&T would actually give me quality data.

Prepay does work in AT&T wireless and internet plans. I do this for the Chase promos

But are you getting an autopay discount? With Verizon’s new unlimited plans, you need to autopay by checking account or the new Verizon Visa and it you make an additional payment, they take away the discount for the month. Not sure if AT&T does the same.

Yeah that’s what I was asking about. Looks like I can port both numbers over for $250 gift cards each. Was then hoping to get autopay discount but prepay $20 a month off the plat card I don’t use. (Assume can just set autopay on the other plat though it isn’t really the best card for earning) Didn’t want to do if they required checking or wouldn’t allow separate payments like Verizon.

You can prepay the $20 and get the autopay discount still

I am on Vzw unlimited with 10 lines. We pay $20 per line and $110 for the internet plan + tax and fees. It comes about $36 per line that includes everything. Att unlimited extra is the same as our Vzw plan and they cost about the same with the 25% off. So it is not a good discount though.

Good deal. Except you need 10 lines for that verizon package, or will pay more per line when you have fewer lines.

I’d rather manage a family of 4 lines and pay $27+ fees for AT&T than $30+ for basic verizon unlimited.

Please add 17-22% on top of $26-37 plan, AT&T charges you taxes and their BS fees. Better go with AT&T
prepaid plan of $300, pay upfront for a year and be done with all the extra garbage. Or tmobile as they include all the fees.

What I do is use a random Oregon address for my AT&T account and designate it as my billing address and primary place of use. The state has no tax. So your bill will be significantly reduced. And obviously do paperless billing 🙂

Those taxes and fees also cover things like your local 911 operator, not just AT&T lining their pockets. I know people don’t come to DoC to place civic duty above savings, just saying.
Also, most companies reduce the roaming coverage for their prepaid customers versus postpaid. Not an issue in populated areas, but rural folks sometimes get a lot less coverage with that smaller bill.
