Our Verdict
When I see the words ‘from’ my immediate thought is that they actually aren’t going to have any cars for that price, I did a search for LAX and even though it wasn’t listed in participating cities I actually saw a rate for $8.49 (there was a further discount of $1.5, no idea why). I assume this is just Avis trying to make some money from rental positioning (e.g they want cars available for business travelers), you see this a lot with long distance routes as well. In a lot of cases this would be cheaper than an Uber/taxi, my issue is I’d still need to fill out all the paperwork and then return the car downtown. Definitely useful if you need to make multiple stops or if the drop/off pick up points are centrally located to your hotel. I can’t see myself using this option, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be useful for others.
Hat tip to Running With Miles
Yeah the free tank of gas didn’t work out. Rate is fine, tax added 50% lol, but no one had any idea about a free tank of gas. I ended up just filling it myself. They need to communicate this program more.
AAAAAHHHHH!!!!! Some more “feel good”! For me, driving downtown for a pickup (and vice versa) is a heck of alot closer and much better than leaving our car for 1 or 2 wks at an off-airport parking lot. An easy $50-100 or more savings.
LAX not being listed is a problem though because I’m putting together a Universal Studios Hollywood double birthday trip. This and staying in a walking distance hotel (disabled) would have been beyond ideal. Could have possibly been dropped off at the chosen hotel.
Considering I already did this at a higher price point, I should be a fan
They have offered this in the past, but with only 4 hours which is pretty limiting. 12 hours is much better!
This is genius. The days don’t quite work for my next trip, but this is exactly the service I was looking to replace long Lyft rides to the cheaper airports (FLL to Miami for instance).
Love the concept.
If the dates align and you have 2-5 people traveling together, this is cheaper than uber and maybe even public transportation.
Great offer! Successfully booked NYC to EWR rental on Sunday. However, how do I know the first tank is included?
Not sure I understand the question.
Good offer just booked a rental
