Our Verdict
Previously there was a $250 bonus that didn’t require a direct deposit. Seems to be available in more states now due to the NYCB merger. The $350 checking bonus isn’t worth considering due to the $25,000 deposit requirement to keep the account fee free (remember account needs to be kept open for 180 days to avoid the closure fee). If you put those funds into a high yield account earning 5% you’d earn $625. We will add this bonus to our best bank account bonuses.

Why are some of these bankers saying $25k deposit is required to open an account to get the $500 promo code in branch?? Am I missing something?
Nothing in the terms of conditions requiring this amount to open an account in branch in order to qualify for the $500 sign up bonus.
Researching this bonus now, and wanted to share some (hopefully) helpful information:
(1) Flagstar has no automatic monthly fee grace period for Elite Checking, except (possibly) for the month of opening if it’s a very short stub month. I confirmed this with three different branches, so I am inclined to believe it’s true. Banker at one branch who seemed very knowledgeable said, however, that you can get fees waived in the first couple of months by calling and asking.
(2) This promotion is slated to last until the end of the year; it will be extended at the end of April.
(3) The banker who seemed competent insisted that the $300/$500 bonus will not stack with the ReferLive bonus. However, he said something that did not seem right, so perhaps
Eric 🔗 can clarify. The banker said that the reason the referral promotion will not stack is that the ReferLive promotion generates a promo code that the banker has to enter, and one cannot enter both that promo code and the $300/$500 promo code. However, I did not think that the RL promotion involved any promo codes or required anyone at the bank to do anything at account opening. Am I confused?
No, you are not confused. RL offers do not produce a promo code at all. You simply go through a RL referral link and enter your info and get a confirmation email. You then are free to sign up for a public (or targeted) offer online or by email.
See this chat that I had with
RSS about this very topic: #2005961 .
I have some volunteers trying to stack both offers using my link.
And am not sure how well bankers support in understanding the fineprint here.
For 500 bonus, they denied to open the account in branch stating minimum opening deposit to be 25K to apply the promo. So ended up in opening 300 promo.
I said the same thing about terms not requiring 25k deposit so I have no idea why some of these bankers asking for it. Please give us all an update if you experience the same thing in going next month and will give update I’m in AZ
What state?
I heard from people in OH branches
Wanted to add a counter-DP to my earlier post. This person got a three-month new account fee waiver on Elite Checking: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/az-ca-fl-in-mi-nj-ny-oh-wi-flagstar-bank-250-350-checking-bonus/#comment-1886965`
Are there no DP’s for ACH pushes qualifying as DDs from other banks yet? (Chase, Cap1, etc.)
Take a look at this post. It’s getting completely out of hand like with what happened in the Stanford post. I would like to post my referral link also but I knew that it’s against the rules so I didn’t do it. However, these people don’t seem to care!
The Online Set up was a Pain for sure. Make sure your using statements for Identification that are less than 30 days old. Once you finally create your log in to the actual website for the third time you will find no routing number and customer service will refer you to ask go ggle for their Route number (226071004). Then you will find also their is a 9 Day hold on funds. Well it is what it is. I will be Attempting to Use Fidelity’s CMA for Deps requirements. I will Update if successful or failure.
General Account FAQs: What is Flagstar’s routing number?
Got Busy with Life and thigs got delayed. I’ve Linked My Fidelity CMA to Flagstar and sent 1st test Dep to confirm properly linked. Then I’ll send the $500 Required and wait 90 Days from that Dep to see if I get the Bonus. Hurry up and Wait world but this is the easiest Work I’ve done my whole Life, I would pick a easier Bank but I already did the rest of the easy ones lol. Last was great Making $3,275.00 After Fee’s In Checking Bonuses. Pretty Proud Of that!
Awesome, excited to hear how this will go
This one says it’s targeted to specific states but I was able to get through the application process with a MA address and license. I did get declined due to Chex but no mention of me being out of footprint being the issue.
P1 and P2 have different last names but live at the same address. P1 currently has Flagstar checking (for this bonus). P1 is trying to refer P2 but not sure how household limit and referral can work together.
Scenario 1: P1 register as referrer. P1 refers P2 (while P1 still has checking)
P2 then opens Elite Checking at branch.
Will that prevent P2 from receiving the $500 bonus due to household limit of 1?
If P2 meets the referral requirement, am I correct to assume P2 will receive the $200 referee bonus and P1 will receive the $50 referrer bonus?
Scenario 2: P1 register as referrer. P1 refers P2. P1 closes his Flagstar checking.
P2 then opens Elite Checking at branch.
In this case, will the household limit still an issue? Will P2 receive the $500 bonus?
If P2 meets referral requirement, I assume P2 will receive $200 referee bonus. But will P1 receive the $50 referrer bonus if he no longer has Flagstar checking?
In your situation. Hopefully there’s some DPs on this don’t want to waste time in branch and possibly only have one of us get the bonus due to the household limit.
My plan is to make 2 visits. Have P1 apply first then P2 apply another day using P1 referral link or go the same day just have each go to different banker to apply.
Unfortunately we have the same address, but different last names, so I don’t know how this will work out in terms of refferal and household limit.
Looks like all of the Florida branches are in Miami and Fort Myers areas. Has anyone from central or north Florida been approved?
EDIT: Disregard – I reviewed the DPs – I’m not getting in.
Really?! Was about to do this one. Central Florida

If you apply, let us know how it goes. It didn’t look like those more than a couple hours away had a much of a chance.
applied and got denied.
This application has been denied according to the current approval rules
I noticed a few people mentioning a Flagstar $200 referral bonus. I looked into it and found out that Flagstar does now have a ReferLive (RL) offer.
However, both the public offer and the referral offer show “This offer cannot be combined with any other offers or promotions.”
That being said, other RL offers (M&T, OP, FFCU) did stack with the referral offers so it’s possible that the $300/$500 public offers that are mentioned on this page can be stacked with the $200 referral bonus for a total payout of $500 or $700.
Checking bonus is for checking account.
Mightbe Referlive is Targeted. So you are not able to see Flagstar in ReferLive offer.
That’s good that the rep told you that but the fine print states otherwise so the rep’s opinion doesn’t really matter in this instance. However, like you, I am confident that the 2 offers will stack due to it being a RL offer. However, there are no guarantees!
BTW, I don’t think that the RL offer is targeted as I was able to generate a referral link this morning by entering my info without any issue.
Were you emailed by Flagstar about the RL offer? If not, how did you find out about it?
I got email from them
I wanted to confirm that you are planning to keep your Flagstar account open for at least a few more months so that you’ll get the $50 VGC.
Thank you.
Yes, I don’t plan to ever close my account unless they get rid of that pesky “lifetime” language. 😉
Opened OOS in-branch while in the Phoenix area. I live in the DFW Texas area. LOL/24. Informed the CSR I travel to Phoenix often for work (which is true). Took about an hour in-branch to set up
Did they say you need to deposit $25k in order to open an account for the $500 bonus?
