The Offer
- UMB Bank is letting some members refer new members and earn $200 for each member they refer that meets the requiremnets. The person being referred also receives a bonus of $150 when they open a new checking account and complete the following requirements:
- Open a UMB Select Checking, UMB Value Checking, or UMB Convenience Checking account through the Referral Center
- Enroll in UMB Online Banking, set up bill-pay, and make three (3) or more online bill payments; AND
- Receive one (1) direct deposit of at least $250 into the account; AND
- Complete six (6) or more UMB Visa® debit card transactions (excludes ATM withdrawals).

Monthly Fees
Convenience checking has a $4 monthly fee. This is waived if you do any of the following:
- $500 average collected balance in this account
- An automatic transfer of $50 or more from this account to a UMB checking, savings, or money market account or UMB loan obligation is made during each monthly service charge cycle
- Online Banking transfer of $50 or more to a UMB checking, savings or money market account during each monthly service charge cycle
- Online Banking transfer of $50 or more to pay a UMB loan obligation during each monthly service charge cycle
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find any mention of an early account termination fee in the fee schedule. According to this comment there is a $30 fee if closed within 90 days
Our Verdict
The fine print regarding actually referring somebody is a bit confusing in my opinion. Still a bonus worth doing if you live in the area, especially if you’re able to refer a significant other as then it’s basically a $350 bonus. I will be adding this to our list of the best checking account bonuses.

Hello, when did you receive this email? A branch manager has just told me that this referral program has ended on March. I want to check the validity of his statement
Hi, do you have the contact information for the promotion? I opened the account back in Aug. 2019 and met all the requirements. I still did not get the bonus now. I called the Costumer Service Center, and they said that I need to contact the branch where I opened my account for help. i then called the branch and had a long discussion with a manager. She seemed unfamiliar with this opening bonus. After putting me on hold for a while, she gave me her solution: I need to wait until March, 2020. If I still do not get the bonus then, I should contact the referral center for help. She also told me that “I believed that there should be a contact number on the referral page.” I trusted her. But after the phone discussion, I really could not find the contact information for the referral center.
I did finally get hold of a person in the customer call center who was helpful but they actually want to the referrer to contact them to follow through on the missing bonus and not the referee.
Did you finally get the bonus?
No. I did get the bonus for referring another person and he also got his bonus. However I never got the bonus fro using Jerry’s link from above. When I tried to follow up on the opening of my account they wanted the referrer to contact them.

I opened up an account while visiting family over Christmas in suburban St. Louis. Opened in branch with an out-of-state ID, no issues at all. I actually received a $25 bonus the day I opened the account – not sure what that’s about, but they did insist I make an opening deposit of $100. Anyway, I hope to get the full $150, and that the person from this thread whose referral I used gets their $200. If anyone else needs a referral, here’s mine:

Did you ever receive the $150 bonus?
I’ve actually only received $100, not the promised $150. I received $25 after opening, and then three additional $25 bonuses immediately after meeting each of the three requirements (6 debits, 3 bill pays, and a legit DD). I don’t see any other DPs of the bonus being paid out this way so it is odd. And given that I’ve already met all of the requirements I’m wondering what might trigger the remaining $50 of the bonus. Anyway, I’ll give them a call if it isn’t posted within the next few weeks.
