- An automatic transfer of $50 or more from this account to a UMB checking, savings, or money market account or UMB loan obligation is made during each monthly service charge cycle

There is a $30 fee if closed within 90 days
Our Verdict
This is really a $500 checking bonus as there are no requirements for the savings bonus really. Quite a few requirements but significantly better than the previous offer for $200. We will add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

I pulled my Chex and was Surprised to see this Bank Hit my up 4 times. Glad this is over with! I can understand 2 time, Maybe when the app is placed and one more during a final review or something. But 4 Times is ridiculous.
Wow. What a joke of a bank. Maybe dispute it as a duplicate?
Remember this was the bank that shut down applications for OOS… so, it’s possible you submitted more than one app trying to get in. They definitely pulled again if you did the phone/mail application for the savings. My P2 got a separate hit from some other branch that was assigned as our local branch in Sept when they did the savings account opening.
I have had a fair amount of success getting duplicated inquiries removed. The Bank/CU only has so many days to respond and after that, Chex removes it. However, I did not try with UMB because two pulls were legit for my P2.
The nice thing about Chex disputes is that they are easy to do online… and only take a minute. No ill-effects for trying either.
Thanks I might try one day, I still dont get the online option and have to get the mailer to review. But since I been doing churning YoY, its worth investing time into removing what i can. Thanks again
I actually got 5 Chex hits from UMB last time around. The final 2, I believe, was when I tried to refer P2. Received referral code and all looked promising except I was then told P2 had to visit branch to finalize application.
Pulling Chex, try again. I have intermittently seen an error where it will say you have to get your report via mail. Tried it 15 minutes later with a different browser and it worked fine. Also, I recommend not trying late at night… during server maint, reboots, or whatever.
That’s exactly what happened to me. I applied multiple times and had at least 2 inqs for the ck acct. I didn’t fight it bc it wasn’t a big deal for me since I had done almost every offer at that point LOL. For OP, I’d dispute 4 inqs, especially if you’re still thinking of applying a lot.
Yea, I probably will.
I called UMB and talked to their online account specialist about not receiving 1099 for $300 bonus. She said, bonus $300 was misc income and not an interest income. She also explained that reporting threshold for misc income is $600. Therefore, they won’t be sending any 1099 for bonus of $300.
Thanks. Interesting to know.
Because there was a spend requirement for the Checking Bonus, I believe they might not issue a 1099 since it would be considered a rebate on spend. But thats all up to the interpretation of the bank.
Account got closed right away because they didn’t get my documents even I mail them twice and called to make sure, still receive a 1099 for the $200 saving bonus I never get today lol
Got both checking ($300) and savings ($200) bonus. Just received two 1099s on the same day. One for $200 and one for $.01.
Same. I wonder if it has anything to do with having to do tasks for the checking but nothing for the savings. I’ll be happy if they treat it that way.
I also got both bonuses and so far, only received one 1099 for the $200.
Same her for P2 and me.
Same for me. $300 (checking) & $200 (Saving). Only got 1099 for the $200 (saving) so far.
Same here
same here. I am wondering what’s going on with them?
Just called to close accounts for both P1 and P2. Could not close accounts over online chat. They sent me this message:
“I would be happy to help you with that, but we are unable to close accounts through this chat utility. Closing the account can be done in either one of three ways. You may either call the Service Center at 1-800-860-4862 to close it over the phone, visit any UMB location to close it in person, or you may submit your request by standard mail. Do you need the mailing address for your branch?”
On hold for a looong time (30ish minutes) waiting for a manager to process the request since the initial person who answered the phone apparently does not have the power to do so. Relatively simple once the manager finally picked up.
Accounts opened 8/6/20 and closed today 11/16/20, no fees or issues. I also had zeroed out the accounts prior to calling.
Apparently you can send a letter by standard mail to any branch location to process account closure and I confirmed that with the rep but I’m doubtful that is true. But you could always give it a shot if you don’t like calling banks.
Same experience except the hold to get to the manager was much shorter, maybe because it’s a Saturday.
Did you log back on to your account to verify that they were closed? I also called to close accounts, but when I logged back onto the accounts they appeared to still be open. I secured messages to them to verify that the accounts were closed and they messaged me back saying that they both were still open.
Same. will chat with them tomorrow to verify. I know some stays as is in the account screen (such as BBVA), so maybe same for UMB.
Account disappear 5-6 hours later from system.
Same message if you sent them a Secure Mail asking to close. Probably need to call in a different time or date as I’ve called on 5pm CST on a Thursday, and I’m waiting for the manager. If no good, I’ll just call at a different time.
Same. Can’t close via chat and had to call. Checking disappeared online two days later but Savings was still visible. Had to call a second time. Gladly, the waiting time was not long.
UMB pays out bonuses FAST! $200 savings day after opened account and $300 day after i met all terms. love this bank. set my timer to close in 90 days. referral system seems a bit weird I referred my p2 and it just took her to how to sign up to refer and not open an account. weird. I don’t like how you cant just generate a link to distribute. you have to text or email thru their system.
You can just do the Twitter link… but, their referral system is incredibly unreliable IMO. Yes, you can send a link to someone and it automatically lists them, even if they don’t do anything, let alone get an account.
Security Alert Notification, invalid password email – I got security alert notification via email regarding Invalid Password for your login ID was submitted but the strange thing is that I got the exact same email a couple of weeks ago (both on Saturday and both at the same time). I did not try to login at all on these days. For the first email I thought it may be their system issue but I am wondering if anyone else received this type of email? Thanks!
Only when I have typo’d my password.
Did you link the account at Mint/Personal Capital/another bank? Maybe it goes out once a week and refreshes your balance for the other site, and the password you saved is no longer correct?
If your login name is easy to guess or a somewhat common name, maybe someone is accidentally trying it? You could change your login name from FirstName1 to FirstName90210. If they guess that, then you have an issue.

This isn’t new. Other than maybe the Starbucks part. I had my referral link since August, and I tried to refer P2, which, didn’t work, and I used someone’s link when I signed up, which also did not work. If you look through past posts, it was plagued with issues.
Hopefully they have updated their referral program recently. The Starbucks referral doesn’t need anyone to sign up. You get the referral just for sending out referrals though it’s a tiny amount.
I tried to register for a referral link but was unable to because my address “contains profanity”. Has anyone else run into this issue?
Yeah… I forget what I did to get around it. If you live in pASSadena you’re screwed.
I was able to sign up at the “royal referral center” just now without issues.
I just got an email today from UMB about there referral program with the link to sign up.
Anyone else have the referral stack with their original checking bonus? I did it with P2 and we both got the initial $500 and the referral bonus for each party. What’s even weirder is that the referral bonus posted twice to each of our accounts (1 week apart from each other).
Me:
-500 checking and savings
-200 referral
-200 referral
P2:
-500 checking and savings
-150 referral
-150 referral
Not sure what’s happening or what to do.
I tried the stack and got nothing. Didn’t suspect it would work but was worth a shot. Apparently, you got mine. /s
Honestly, I wouldn’t do anything about it, but if they come for it, I’d give it back. But if you feel guilty, let them know and I am sure it will get fixed. Maybe they will go back and give it to the right person, like me & my P2.
I’ll let it sit for the time being. Thanks
How did both of you get referrals? Don’t you (or one of you) have to be a customer first (have an account with them) in order to refer? Meaning, one you of you have to signup and then refer the other person?
I did my account and bonus first to verify it would pay out. Then I referred p2.
