I’ve been denied in-branch for Chex for 2 different FI. Let’s just say that it’s at least a tad embarrassing.

Did not get the chance to take advantage of this offer. Details below:

2024-08-10: Applied online. Application was placed under review. Got “unsuccessful opening” email later that day.
2024-08-12: Called the support number listed in the email; rep told me that my app was denied due to frozen Chex/Equifax (although neither of those were frozen at the time of application…). I unfroze my LexisNexis and submitted another application online which again went to review.
2024-08-13: Another “unsuccessful opening” email. Rep told me that a Chex/QualiFile check failed.
2024-08-14: Visited ACCU in-branch. Rep greeted me as soon as I walked in and I said I wanted to open a new checking account. She immediately asked if I had a DL with a current address, I confirmed yes. She then stated that they will pull my ChexSystems which will check to see if I have any delinquent accounts. I confirmed that was okay. Next, she said they will place a hard pull on my credit to check if I had any duplicate SSNs or related questionable identity things. I asked if there were any ways to avoid that such as opting out of overdraft protection. She said unfortunately they could not bypass that part. I thanked her, told her I wasn’t willing to have a hard pull on my credit at this time, and left.

Any DP on Fidelity CMA counting as DD? Looks like it hasn’t been mentioned yet.

Question: Terms state DDs, 10 debit transactions, and eStatements must be completed within 60 days, but later in the terms, it states, “The above requirements must be met for 6 consecutive months.” Does this mean the DDs must continue for 6 months?

Update, got the first half of SUB ($250) posted 8/2 after 2nd DD on 7/29. Curious if i will get 2nd half if I stop the DDs (due to this phrase in the terms: The above requirements must be met for 6 consecutive months.”).

Hm good to know- the rep when I opened said the first bonus and referral bonus would post within 60 days of opening and the second bonus 60 days after that, but I couldn’t see anything in the terms confirming that. I think the terms do say they’ll claw back the first half if you don’t continue to meet the requirements so might want to keep everything going until the second bonus posts.

Sorry, no, it was opened 6/14. I was looking at the wrong line in my spreadsheet. I plan to keep the DD going, but the language seems a bit ambiguous.

Ah ok- mine was opened before yours, looks like I should probably message them to find out what’s going on.

They will not provide the 2nd half of the bonus if both dd and debit transactions aren’t met for the full 6 months. I confirmed this. The language was ambiguous in the first part of the terms but clarified at the end (I missed that when signing up). They also told me the $100 referral bonus only applies to the referrer and not the referee when I followed up, which is NOT what I was told by the banker when I signed up in branch. So, I was expecting $600 and will only get $250. Suffice it to say I will be closing after the 6 month mark and not giving them any more business.

So you’re punishing them for your inability to fully comprehend the T&C? Nice.

Here are the terms, my (our) bad for not paying better attention: “1. Must be a NEW member with no existing accounts at Arizona Central Credit Union (AZCCU). Existing primary members and joint owners opening a new membership do not qualify. Former members qualify as a new member if their previous account was closed at least 12 months prior to the new open date. To qualify, the new member must ensure the following three (3) requirements have been met within the first sixty (60) days of account opening: 1. Have a monthly direct deposit of minimum $500. 2. Signed up and currently enrolled for eStatements, AND 3. Has performed at least fifteen (10) Debit card transactions. The new member will receive 50% of the monetary bonus deposited to their Member Share account once the above (3) requirements have been met and the remaining 50% of the monetary bonus will be deposited at the end of 6 months from the date of account opening. Bonuses will be awarded in the following tiers: $500 minimum monthly Direct Deposit = $250 one-time bonus to new member; $1,000 minimum monthly Direct Deposit = $500 one-time bonus to new member. APY on checking accounts range from 0% to 0.10% APY based on product type and may vary. Minimum to earn APY is $1.00. Fees may reduce earnings. Bonus is considered interest and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-INT. Cannot be combined with any other offers. Offer valid for new accounts opened by 12/31/2024. Employees, officers and directors of AZCCU are not eligible. The above requirements must be met for 6 consecutive months. If the account is closed within 6 months, the new account bonus amount will be deducted upon closing from the new member’s account. Offer must be mentioned at the time of account opening to be eligible. Terms and conditions subject to change without notice. Federally insured by NCUA.”

Applied online 6/14, though terms say you must mention the promo to get it. Was able to CC fund $55 with Citi DoubleCash (5 for member share, 50 for checking–did not try larger amt). Looks like it coded as purchase.

Received email that my account was under review. Same day, received message to upload a pic of my ID–completed 6/14. Notification that my account was opened received 6/18. Then, I secure messaged through website to see if promo was attached since I opened online. Rep said she would make a note to monitor for the promo.
