The Offer
- Credit Union West is offering a bonus of $100 when you open a new checking account and complete the following requirements:
- Use promo code BONUS100
The Fine Print
- Membership account must be opened for at least 90 days before the $100 bonus is available for use otherwise forfeited.
- Any taxes are the responsibility of the recipient and are reported on a 1099-INT.
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
This account has no monthly fees to worry about
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find the fee schedule, so I’m unsure if there are any early account termination fees or not
Our Verdict
Looks like an extremely easy bonus to meet the requirements for as you only need to use the promo code. Given that it’s a soft pull we will be adding this to the best checking bonus page.

DP. Easy to close account. Sent them a secure message, and then they emailed me a link via DocuSign to sign.
Another information to add about this account is that there’s an inactivity fee of $10/month if there has been no activity for the past 12 months.
Note: Enter the promo code BONUS100 at the top of the 4th screen, Funding
It says invalid promo code for me.
My data point:
– Applied 9/26/19. Got an email that I had to call in with my work phone number. Called the number in the email, and the agent said she couldn’t take that information, so I should respond to the email. I emailed them my work phone number, and they opened my account. LESSON LEARNED: Be sure to enter a work phone number on the application.
– Bonus posted 9/27, and there’s a general hold until 12/27/19 (91 days).
– As of 10/10, no hard inquiries with TU, EQ, or EX.
– They require your member ID to sign up for online access. They didn’t email it to me, and I couldn’t find it on any of the letters they sent, so I again had to call in. Answered about 7 security questions. They finally gave it to me, and I was able to sign up for an online account. LESSON LEARNED: Save any letters that might include your member ID.
Looks like this one might be dead already. When I enter the promo code “BONUS100” I get the message “Invalid Promo.”
I just sent a message to the bank asking if there is a different promo code. The fine print on the offer page still mentions the $100 bonus, but no promo code.
They responded to me with no information except a number to call to speak with an agent… so I called them.
According to the agent I spoke with, the website is having issues and I should try applying again with the promo code “in a few hours.” The promotion is still valid though and if it doesn’t work in a few days or so I can call them again and it sounded like they might be able to apply the code manually to my account. Not totally sure, the agent was a little vague. I asked about an expiration and there is none for now.
Did you ever get it to work? I tried yesterday too and it didnt work
Nope. I just tried again now and got the same “Invalid Promo” message. I have to decide how much energy I want to expend on this one calling in and talking to people. I do this for easy money and if I have to call in and get transferred around for this I might just pass. I’ll probably just keep applying in the coming days/weeks online and see if it ever goes through.
When trying to upload front/back of driver’s license and submitting it gets stuck indefinitely saying “Processing Images…”
Anyone else having trouble with that?
No
Update: Finally was able to submit the image (I think the website was having issues). But got email saying I had to come in branch to finish.
10/2 went in branch and just started from scratch. CSR mentioned they check Chex but must not be sensitive as I’m ~18/24. $100 bonus promo applied and see the funds on hold until 1/2/20.

Sending my sister in AZ after this one. Also saw a “3%” something pop up for the same bank, something to explore.
3.01% Kasasa checking account up to $10k balance. Requires 15 debits/one ACH (in or out) per calendar month.
Trying this offer. I’ll let you guys know how it goes
Update: Credit and Debit card funding is limited to $25 in total. This limit also applies to external bank transfers and internal transfers within the Credit Union. No hard-pull yet, I opted out of overdraft protection. Right before submission there is a box to apply the promo code.
Did you receive instant approval?
Update 2: No instant approval, was left with the message at the end of application submission “we will contact you in a few days”. I’m assuming probably this Monday I’ll get a response since I applied during the weekend.
Update 3: Account opened, no hard pull detected thus far. I had to call in to open because I did not put a work phone number in my application. Registered for online access via the membership number given in a email from the Credit Union.
Update 4: I would also like to add, this was (or is) the quickest bank bonus in history to credit!!! I noticed upon checking my account login when I received my membership number that the $100 was credited the first day the account was opened.
Any Hard Pull? Instant Approval?
Anyone Know if it is a hard or soft pull?
