Our Verdict

Not as good as the 70k + $100 offer, not sure if we will see that offer return in the near time so might be worth applying for this if you have a need for Alaska airline miles. Will add this to our best credit card bonus page. Read these things everybody should know about Bank of America cards before applying.

I’m out of the country until January 12. I don’t want to apply out of country or with a VPN due to Bank of America’s super sensitive fraud department. Do you all think this offer of 75,000 will still be available in January based on how long BofA usually keeps these offers going historically? Also, will you still get the 75,000 without the employee name and number on the application?

I got the 75000 offer without the employee name and number. As far as I know (and with another poster’s comment), it doesn’t look like it’s required.

I feel your pain on Bank of America’s sensitivity. I opened up a checking account with them three weeks ago and they didn’t even give me a WEEK to verify my identity in branch before closing the checking account (the in-branch relationship banker transferred my funds to a new checking account as they were closing my old one. So dumb considering I have had a mortgage and multiple different credit cards in the past with this dumb bank and they still couldn’t verify my identity just because I was using a new phone number and all my other info remained the same. Keep in mind the “new” phone number was only new to them and has been on my credit report for over 10 years).

So, knowing that, I would probably hold off on applying until you get back and hope it’s still there. I am hopeful it will remain at that level for you since Barclay’s is also continuing to offer the Hawaiian card at 75,000, so they are probably just trying to match the level. My instinct says that you’ll still have the offer there when you get back because of that. Safe travels!

Applied yesterday with TU unfrozen and went to pending. Got email today asking to unfreeze TU or Experian. Called and came to know system tried to pull Experian randomly, rep pulled TU and then said denied due to too many inquiries. Asked for recon and after long hold still denied for same reason. Too many inquiries were from mortgage shopping in August so can’t do much.

Applied. Last time I had this card was 18 months ago. Went pending, then found out I had a text message from USBank asking if I had applied. Answered Yes to the text and was then immediately approved.

Received targetted e-mail offer for 80k / 4k spend today. Curious if we’ll see elevated subs closer to the merge.

I’m 3/24 but debating trying for this again even though my Hawaiian card will turn into this. How long is the recommended wait time for opening a BoA account before applying for this card?

I thought I remember seeing something about 24 months, but myself and p2,p3 apply every year. Right around when the annual fee shows up we convert our Alaska cards to some cash back or whatever card is available without an annual fee. Then apply for the Alaska card a month later, on month 13. So I don’t think they enforce it. We also just did the Hawaiian card and plan on transferring that to Alaska.

I got rejected for an Alaska card earlier this year, and I’m assuming it’s cause I shut my BoA account after having it open for 2 months. So basically I need to get back in good graces with BoA so I don’t waste a pull.

It’s not necessary, but you could ask a customer service rep via phone or chat

DP: approved at 1/12 and 4/24. To get the extra 5k, I used the chat function on the alaska air website and asked the rep for the required info. hopefully it goes thru but worth a shot regardless

Update – Denied. Had my most recent BoA Alaska card from 08/18 to 08/24. Most recent BoA Alaska card was closed a bit over 3 months ago. Don’t hold any BoA cards currently. Most recent newly opened card is with Amex from 03/24.

P1 and P2 are both lol/24 and were approved. We also both closed the same personal Alaska card in the last 12 months. I noted the exclusion language said “may” as opposed to “won’t” so I rolled the dice and won.
