Our Verdict
This offer was sent out to some via mail, it’s not clear if it’s available to anyone at a branch or limited to those who received the mailer. Let us know if you try. (One reader tried and was told it’s targeted and the checked and saw they were not targeted.)
They have a $250 online bonus available now as well which does not require the large deposit. Assuming a 0% interest rate, you have to figure you’re losing $100-$150 by tying up the $25,000 for 3 months versus putting it in a high yield savings account. You also may have to leave the funds there until end of September when bonus posts, or else pay the $25 monthly fee.
You can, however, keep the money in a linked deposit account, like a CD or savings account. Looks like there is a 1.31% high yield money market account where you can part the funds and lose only a little bit versus other high-yield accounts. Need to verify if this is an ‘eligible linked account’.
Best plan is probably to open this in April, make $25,000 deposit at the end of April, leave funds in account for May, June, and July, and wait for the bonus to post, likely in September. It seems a bit complicated, so we might not add this one to our best bank bonus page.

Hi wondering has anybody closed the account after bonus? Opened since 10/2020. TIA!
Got a mailer today. $500 checking bonus with $25K deposit + $100 savings with $10K
Both $600 bonus & $10 utility bonus paid 2/19/21…ymmv on the actual date paid due to signup and monthly statement cycle delivery date. No issues with this bank ànd IMO basic requirements with ease of setup and deposits makes this a rewarding bonus for the effort.
I received the $600 bonus on Feb 22, after opening online on Oct 1, 2020. Account was flagged for review, as I forgot to unlock my credit report, unlocked, and approved Oct 5. Completely funded both accounts by Oct 15. I received a mailer with the promotion, as I live in the bank’s service area. Even made an additional $10 for 3 unique $10 bill pays to different payees. Dislike this bank. Wanted to add spouse as beneficiary, as it’s not an option when opening, and which I ended up not doing, since only way was a branch visit…during a pandemic.
False, nonexistent offer. Went through many, many steps to get to work. I was in the banking industry for 3 decades and patiently and correctly slogged through about 3 hours of various online steps. Was all approved. Then disallowed against transfer in of any funds from another bank despite long call with representative on line I was directed to call. Clearly did not want to pay bonus.
Agree that it is YMMV. I am inside their footprint, applied and went to pending for further review. A few days later Bank of West said that I must apply in one of their branch offices. From DPs here, Bank of West requests the targeted mailer to open in branch with the bonus attached.
I Opened this account last week and funded with my WoH card. Coded as a purchase. I had my cash advance limit set to $100.

Seems like this is available online / not targeted: https://www.bankofthewest.com/campaigns/personal-banking/premier-checking-offer-bonus-bundle.html
Why do you think that, it still says in the terms “Account may be opened in a branch with a promo code provided in the mailer or opened online through bankofthewest.com/premier600”
Mailer with a promo code is needed and that sounds like it’s targeted to me.
The second half of the sentence.. “or opened online through bankofthewest.com/premier600”
Ah, it’s tracked separately here https://www.doctorofcredit.com/ymmv-bank-of-the-west-600-checking-savings-bonus-az-ca-co-id-ia-ks-mn-mo-ne-nv-nm-nd-ok-or-sd-ut-wa-wi-wy/
I was in a branch yesterdau and told by the branch manager that you need to have received the mailer to be eligible. She even looked up my address and told me I’m not eligible.
Apply online
I know that’s what I did. Sorry forgot to include that info lol I went in just to say hi.. but the manager was dumb and clueless about everything and anything
Hi Cardi G, Were you successful applying online? Did Bank of The West confirm the bonus is attached to your account?
wish this was available in Texas
