Barclaycard has sent out e-mails to current cardholders of select cards offering them a bonus when referring a friend.
JetBlue Plus
- Earn 5,000 points for every approved account you refer through this special offer. Up to a maximum of 50,000 bonus points.
The issue with this offer is that the person you refer only receives 30,000 points after $1,000 spend. There is a public offer for 40,000 points after $1,000 in spend.
Hawaiian Airlines
- Earn 5,000 points for every approved account you refer through this special offer. Up to a maximum of 50,000 bonus points.
Person being referred receives 35,000 points. Best offer is 50,000 points.
Wyndham – No Annual Fee
- Earn 6,000 points for every approved account you refer through this special offer. Up to a maximum of 60,000 bonus points.
Person being referred receives 15,000 points after first purchase. This matches the current best offer.
Our Verdict
Obviously referring a friend to a bonus that is 10,000 points lower just so you can get 5,000 points is unacceptable. I think Barclaycard has also sent out offers for other cards as well, if they have please let us know the details in the comments. Please do not share your actual referral links here, if there are any good offers we will create a separate post for that.
Would thay match the public offer after signup?
Possible I guess but not worth the risk.
I received an offer to refer my friends to the Hawaiian Airlines card for 35k points, which is far lower than the best possible offer available to people. Yeah 5k points to me isn’t worth my friends, or even random people, missing out on an extra 15-25k of points through the publicly available best offers.
Barclay sent me an email about referring friends to the Wyndham no-AF card (15k points after first purchase). I believe that matches the public offer.
The referral bonus is 6,000 per friend up to 60,000 Wyndham points.
Thanks, added to post. That is indeed the best offer
“best offer” being relative — for the brief juncture at hand. It’s quite inferior to Barclay’s frequently offered promo of 45,000 points (w/fee)…. You’d have to be quite the greedy so and so to push a “friend” to get the inferior 15k offer. (rather like pushing a “friend” to get the SWA cards when they’re only paying 25k miles)
Yeah definitely
I agree, completely unacceptable. I’d feel guilty sending my link to any of my friends knowing that I was screwing them over.
