Our Verdict
This card used to make sense for military members as they were able to get the massive $995 annual fee waived, but Barclaycard has cut benefits for military members and they no longer get the fee waiver. Those that already submitted their documents and are receiving military benefits should continue to receive their benefits, this should include new cards but I just don’t see Barclaycard doing that in this scenario and I haven’t seen datapoints of this being automatically applied.
The $995 annual fee makes this card breakeven after the sign up bonus is accounted for. You’d think a card with an annual fee this high would have some decent benefits, unfortunately you would be wrong. You can read our full review of this card here.

Some 5 years ago or so, I had one Bank of America card with no rewards.
There was only penalties and fees for everything.
One day i saw a rich cool older friend with a very nice sexy Black metal card.
(the “Black Card” the Brother of this Gold Card and the sister of the Titanium Card).
And i decided i really wanna have this high roller black metal card.
So i started doing reseach how to get this high end black card and i noticed there is a $495 annual fee which when youre 22 there is no way you pay that no matter what.
But after research i found a card that is all black and metal and looks and feels the same and has no annual fee! (at least the first year)
The Chase Marriott! I applied and was super happy to have such a cool card, i showed it off to everyone and felt really cool.
After a few months i realized that along with this coold card im also getting some Marriott points and i also got a big chunk of bonus points and i can actually sleep for free a few nights where the high rollers rich people sleep in a nice fancy Marriott…
Thats when the points and miles game started for me and the rest is history.
Since then i flew around the world and i have over 100 credit cards.
So thank you Mr Black Card for charging $495 and opening my eyes to shop around 😆
