  • Free annual companion ticket after annual fee is paid and on card anniversary
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 2 miles per $1 spent on all miles & more integrate partners
    • 1 mile per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • Free FICO score
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Two Lufthansa Business Lounge vouchers annually (note despite the name Business is their lowest class of lounge, senator is higher and 1st is their highest class of lounge)

Our Verdict

Not as good as the recent 100,000 miles. If you have a use of Lufthansa miles then this is definitely worth considering if not applying for. We will add this to our list of the best credit cad bonuses.

If you’re going to apply for this card then I’d also recommend reading our post on things you should know about Barclays before applying.

Post history:

  • Update 8/10/23: There is another link here. This offer provides Companion Certificate after first use of card (rather than onaccount anniversary) and also 2 passes to LH Business Lounges
  • Update 1/5/23: This offer disappeared for a while, and is now showing again. (ht HMBC)

Can this card be downgraded to a no annual fee barclays card later?

Like many i was totally frustrated there were no clear articles on the LH card and no way to check without miles but I grabbed the 100K offer dreaming of those 55K biz roundtrip “Bargains” lol. It’s a near scam. The fees on those 55K RT bargains is $2K to $3k. That said, there are plenty of 78K “Easy Flex” one-way awards to US with zero fees and about $70 taxes. I understand other blogs etc don’t want any mention of Barclays or BOA cards because they don’t pay them commissions but failure to cite a good reason “why not?” other than “LH miles are hard to get” is counter-productive. I’d think of this card as a clone of the United card in that it has plenty of 78K biz flights US/EU and has the annual 2 lounge certs (also sometimes a companion flight cert). But the 55K RT biz “Bargains” are awful values unless the only alternative is cash. (and there’s better cash values usually).

Is there a lot of a availability for redemptions and what are the taxes like. I would love to know before I burn one of my 5/24 slots.

78K biz tickets with no fees pretty easy.

Too bad I’m 27/24. Just a tad over their limit.

Not sure why, but I never get approved for this card. I regularly get approved their other branded cards tho.

Lufthansa Miles. What are they best used for on United, anyone?

no fee biz easy Flex awards US/EU are 78K + $70 tax. two lounge passes per year. Value-wise close to a United card.

This card is absolutely useless unless you live in Lufthansa’s footprint in the U.S. and you fly to Germany, Austria or Switzerland (Lufthansa, Austrian, and Swiss respectively). Redemption value on other partner airlines’ routes is ridiculous. The same with Lufthansa’s Business Lounge vouchers: only 3 airports in the U.S. have Lufthansa lounges. I still haven’t found a way to spend my 80k Lufthansa miles from last year. One year later the card cannot be product-changed to a no-fee card (no downgrade options exist for this card). You’ll have to close the card if you don’t want to pay annual fees.

Flying there all the time, but in my view the program is still pretty much useless.

LH M&M are of little use on LH group airlines, as is the case with every airline program miles. The best use is for OZ (Asiana), NH (ANA), etc. flights to/from Asia, where the cost is a small fraction of that of other programs (e.g. 1/3 of the cost of United MileagePlus “saver”) if you book business class flights. So, this card is not really for those who want to use miles on LH group airlines or fly economy, but rather for those who plan to use miles for business class booking on Star Alliance airlines, where M&M has some definite sweet spots.

Useless, except the lounge passes for my underage kid who cannot get an amex plat AU card. Probably not worth burning a 5/24 slot.

It’s been over 10 months since the 100K offer is gone so not really “recent”.

Hi! I applied for another Barclays card a week ago, which resulted in a hard inquiry. Does this mean I can apply for this card without another inquiry?
