Avoiding Fees
The monthly fees will vary slightly based on what state your living in. We suggest checking this before choosing your account. Most people will be best off going for the Bright Banking account and then using one of the fee waivers, unless you’re a student or senior in which case those accounts will be the best option.
BB&T Bright Banking® $10 monthly
You can avoid the monthly fee on this account if you meet any of the following requirements:
- Receive $500 or more in direct deposits
- Have an average monthly balance of $1,500 or more
- Have $6,000 or more in combined deposits in checking, savings, Money Rate Savings, Investor’s Deposit Accounts
- Have an outstanding personal mortgage with BB&T
BB&T Fundamentals Checking $5 monthly
It’s not possible to get this monthly fee waived.
BB&T Identity Protection® Checking $6 monthly
It’s not possible to get this monthly fee waived. If you want free identity theft insurance we suggest looking at Credit Sesame (also gives you access to a free FAKO credit score).
BB&T Student Banking $0 monthly
This account does not have a monthly charge if you choose to receive paperless statements. If you choose to receive paper statements you’ll need to pay a monthly fee of $3. You must be under 23 and a student to be eligible for this account.

Our Verdict
They have offered bonuses of $125 and $150 in the past (smaller footprint). The upside to this bonus is that you can receive at least most of it without needing a direct deposit and you can fund up to $1,500 with a credit card. The downside is that it’s only for a maximum of $100 and I’m not sure how difficult the direct deposit or redeeming the deal will be. Until we have a bit more information I’m not going to add it to our list of recommended bank bonuses.

PNC DP:
DD count as DD.
Can you share what the transaction from the PNC push looked like?
Any more DPs on CC funding limits?
I am really finding it hard to MS my recently acquired Merrill and Chase SW RR cards.
I have already exhausted the PNC and Huntington options.
Any other bank accounts which can be easily funded with CC in PA ?
TIA 🙂
DP: Got the full $100 bonus exactly 118 days after opening, even though many of my requirements were done months ago. (terms said to expect payout 120 days from opening) I was not one of the lucky ones above who got paid twice. Says: Description: ANRAF OnLine Offer BONUS PAYMENT
For those who got paid twice, did you contact the bank as soon as you completed you requirements to get paid? Maybe someone manually applied the bonus, and the automated version still kicked in at the 120 day mark? Also strange that mine came in lump sum for all 4 chunks, but the P2P bonus was separate on the capture.
Nope, never communicated with the bank for anything whatsoever.
Same for me but the debit card bonus of $25 took 4 to 5 months at least to post.
Not sure how, but I just noticed that the bonus for three of the four features somehow posted twice, for a total of $175 instead of $100! Not complaining of course, but it’s mysterious how they managed to do that lol.

Yes I confirmed with rep. debit card $1500 and credit card $250..
it seems the online max allowed is $250. trying to fund through csr for $1500 and got the message.
They must have just changed to a lower $250
Was working in January. Sorry if I broke the deal. Maybe it varies by state? VA here. I was considering signing up SO mainly for the CC spend, and both getting the $50 referral bonus… maybe I will reconsider. I seem to recall selecting “DEBIT card” bubble, but filling in credit card info, if that helps anyone.
DP: Opened “e-savings” account online within BB&T login, just over 1 month after checking. CC funding – to CSP $1500. Posted instantly as purchase.
got the bonus on the 18th, exactly 120 days after the acct was open; now to avoid the early acct closing of $25, must wait til march or 180 days after!
For the “Redeem a Deal”, I only used my card at two places; McDonalds & at Walmart Neighborhood Market for like $3 each. A few days later a deal popped up to get 10% off at Zoes Kitchen restaurant within the next 35 days. Looks a lot like an AMEX deal, except you don’t apply it to the card, and it is already attached. I guess I will be trying it out! There is such a thing as a free lunch! (Albeit, 2 months later I will get my cash back)
I am having an issue getting signed up for Personal Payments (PopMoney) to try for the “Pay a Friend”. It would not allow me past the entering of my mobile phone number. At that point I am supposed to get a TM, but I get nothing. Called CSR today, created a ticket, and they are going to “reset my online profile” and call me back to get logged in. Looks like I am not getting that call back until Monday…
Correction: You do have to click “Add to card” to get the deal attached to the debit card – I guess I don’t recall doing that. Just had a new one show up for Five Guys Burgers… yum.
Update: Finally got BB&T to enable my PopMoney account. Took a week and a couple calls. This was the first time I have used PopMoney ever, and I can see why nobody mentions it for P2P payments. It’s very slow – transfer took over a week, but instantly pulls the money from the sender.
