Our Verdict
Usually this card has an annual fee of $50 which is not waived the first year, this offer gives you no annual fee ever which means you can keep it. This is particular useful because the card earns 5% cash back everywhere on all purchases twice a year (NBA Finals & All Star Weekend), it’s also an American Express card which means you can enroll it in AmEx Sync offers and also in small business Saturday. If you’re seriously considering this offer, I’d strongly recommend you read our detailed review of this card first.
This seems like a pretty nice upgrade to the card, because it means you don’t need to worry about recouping the costs of the annual fee each year.
Hat tip to reader Ted for letting me know.
It seems they are actually paying 6x total for gas stations and super markets during the promo periods. Those categories always get 2x, and I’m finding that I get the second point per dollar for the category bonus as well as the additional 4 points per dollar for the 5x promotion.
Looking carefully at my points compared to the transactions, the normal 1 point per dollar shows up itemized by transaction, and then there are lines with “2x Points Gas Stations/Supermarkets” that give me the second point per dollar. Then there lines for “5x Points NBA Purchased All-Star/Finals” with the additional 4 points per dollar, but there is overlap. My gas station and supermarket purchases have both the extra second point and the extra 4 points, making it 6 points per dollar total for those purchases during the 5x period.
It’s only twice a year, but that’s pretty nice!
I can confirm I’m seeing the same thing.
And for those who have asked before…
1x points post 3-4 days after the transaction changes from pending to posted
Additional Category and Promotional points post roughly 24 hours later
Confirmed for me also.
I got a denied letter with “unable to verify identity information” reason. Called next day and was told that application is already closed, and it’s not possible to reactivate it. The only solution is to apply again. What is this? How to deal with that? I don’t want to waste another hard pull.
Decided to go for it on wife’s churn of cards. Got instant $30k approval. Now need to get the card in as soon as possible since tomorrow is the 4th. Swapped out Amex SimplyCash app for this since Simply cash was $250 bonus and this one is $150 + whatever that is time to get from 5x. Will see what we can do!
I applied on May 28, didn’t get instant approval. Didn’t call based on other comments I read. Got an email saying I was approved on May 29. Received the card in the mail on June 2.
It did not pull Transunion, Equifax, or Experian for me. Not sure how they approved me but I even got a $30k credit limit.
Does this card come with fraud protection ? Dont see it as part of benifits ?
At the page https://www.doctorofcredit.com/amex-offer-credit-not-posting-what-to-do/
I see following
For bank-branded Amex cards (such as Fidelity Amex or US Bank Flexperks Amex) as well as for Bluebird/Serve cards: Contact @AskAmex on Twitter. You can tweet something like: “@askamex my amex offer for exxon didn’t post. 90 days already past. can you help?” They’ll tell you to log into your regular Amex account in order to verify your identity
Does this mean I be able to register the nba card at americanexpress.com ?
You can register it for Amex Offers.
Applied for the card. Unfortunately no instant approval, went pending. Called in and their support was pathetic. All CSR could tell me was that there was “important documentation” to arrive in 7-10 business days. Would not say if that was approval or denial but I’m assuming denial. Really strange process!
I applied this morning and called the number listed in my pending application but the woman that I spoke with told me that I should expect a phone call and then quickly ended the conversation. Where might I find the reconsideration number?
When I was told the same thing, the rep offered to “schedule a quick call back from the credit analyst”. And I got a call back in 1.5 hour.
(Still waiting for results -after 3 days though..)
Anyone know if you can get this card expedited on approval? Have been out of the country and realize the 2 weeks starts tomorrow.
I have read in the term that “payments made for prepaid and reloadable cards such as certain gift cards, Visa Buxx,® and similar cards are not Qualifying Purchases”. So maybe simon’s mall vgc and serve is not eligible for 5%, or even not eligible for any points? Any datapoints for those?
@David
I wonder how are you even supposed to load buxx with an amex.
Got an instant for $19k, hope to make good use of this card for amex offers and during the special offer periods
I heard that making payments to this card is a hassle from other institutions like WF, by the way.
