Also forgot to mention that the card has everyday 3% cash back on gas, 2% on grocery/dining/takeout and 1% everything else.

Apparently, there are no foreign transaction fees. I did not know this. That’s good to know.

How is Best Buy still in business?

Like, any day now… vulture capital firms loading them up with debt like Red Lobster, Toys-R-Us, and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

We get it, most of it’s on Amazon anyway.

Because they still offer top brands. That’s what did Bed Bath and Beyond, Sears and similar businesses in – they realized they could get a better margin by offering crappy private labeled products from China and nixing expensive contracts with top brands. It worked briefly until everyone realized they could buy the same cheap crap from Amazon for cheaper. As sales and margins fell, it was a death spiral of awful management decisions.

Best Buy still makes great money and is a very profitable company, they just aren’t and won’t grow because of what they sell. They also don’t have any real competitors.

Jeff They’ve diversified their products adding home goods and appliances – if they add groceries and car parts they’ll be just like Target and Walmart. They also utilize their stores like fulfillment centers. And they don’t sell much Chinese crap replicas, it’s all quality stuff you can trust.

Just like how I manifested the latest crypto boom after merely thinking about buying bitcoin.

Does anyone know if this would work buying bb gift cards?

Buying Best Buy gift cards from Best Buy with a Best Buy credit card while earning Best Buy reward points? I’m very certain it does not work.

Could you please clarify the following: “Every quarter you get to choose your 5% cash back category – travel, wholesale, utilities, home improvement, grocery, dining, gas, clothing with a $75 max.”

I’m not sure that is correct. I’ve never seen this option within my account nor is it mentioned in the website link. I have seen something like this: “Sometimes an offer comes up and you get to choose a 5% cash back category…..”

Andy I literally get this offer every single quarter, and it has been like that for 3 years. It comes in by email right after the quarter starts (Jan,Apr,Jul,Oct).

Do you have the best buy store card, or the actual credit card from Citi?

Actual credit card from Citi

I have the Citi card. I don’t see the quarterly cash back stated on website, not in any of the offer pages when I log-in, and nor have I ever gotten quarterly e-mails. I do get random periodic offers like $50 reward certificate if I spend $2k outside Best Buy by 8/31. It sounds like this may be targeted to certain cardholders?

Ok, thanks.Although, I wonder how you get targeted for the quarterly spend categories. I’d be interested to see a screenshot of the quarterly e-mail notification. Just some data points, I have not purchased much from Best Buy nor spent much on the BB Visa credit card, both within past several years. I’ve been a cardholder for nearly two decades.

Andy I would post it if I could. They used to send just a random category for 5% for the quarter. Then in October 2022 they went to choose-your-category. The first email I seem to have with the choice was October 3, 2022.

Last email, Jul 1:
Subject: “Time to pick your quarterly bonus category.”
Body: Choose your category and earn 5% back in rewards on your purchases.

{Button with link}

For a limited time, pick from our most popular categories and earn extra rewards with your Card outside of Best Buy® through 9/30/24. Activate now for the most earning potential. Maximum reward of $75.

Earning extra rewards is as easy as:

Choose your category.
Earn rewards when you shop.
Redeem your rewards at Best Buy

Then some lengthy terms.

So the 15% is only for the BB purchases?

Yes. So make it count if you got a big purchase.
