At the start of every month, I like to take a step back and thank all the readers who provided helpful comments the previous month. I also like to highlight the best comments from that month and to reward those readers who did leave one of the best comments. The aim is to hopefully help readers that might have missed these great comments by highlighting them here and also to give each reader a $10 Amazon gift card that is mentioned below. If you were selected below, keep an eye out on your e-mails for the next few days for an e-mail from me.
In addition we are trying something new. Each of the people selected below can choose one referral post to have their information ‘stickied’ to. This means your comment will be the top comment of that referral post (regardless of when you leave the comment). This should help get these people more referrals.
Bank Bonuses
- Dylan with a detailed comment outlining the Huntington Bank bonus. Very useful comment and also nice to see another reader nominate this comment as well.
- Emporio pointing out the Associated Bank Money Market account bonus isn’t as good as listed. Often monthly fee requirements change and it’s not possible for us to always catch them, it makes such a positive difference when readers are able to spot these mistakes and update us.
- Joe letting us know the Elements Financial household rule isn’t enforced.
- YAR pointing out the TD Bank savings bonus is better than I listed due to the fact Preferred Savings account is not required.
Credit Cards
- DS challenging the conventional wisdom on the 5/24 rule applying to the Marriott business card. This eventually led DS applying for the card and proving the 5/24 rule didn’t apply to this card.
Misc
- Mi b providing some very useful and constructive criticism regarding making something clearer. I love when readers do this, especially when they give an alternative on how I can word something differently to make it easier to understand. This is especially true for titles, we purposefully don’t write click bait titles so if you think something could be phrased differently then let us know.
For the life of me I couldn’t not find any link between churning and Ashley Madison. I have seen the Ashley Madison ads displayed on this site for weeks now, and it is the only website I visit that shows such ads (hint: beautiful women in a seductive pose). I imagine the ads are served by Google AdSense or the sort, but what would trigger it? Before anyone asks, no, I did not search or browse AM site, the ads shows up even in Incognito…
They target people based on their age, gender, etc, lots of criteria, not just search history, so it could be that.
Thank you William Charles and Chuck for all the work that you do. This site is the 1st site I check when I wake up and the last one before I go off to bed! (and of course a million times in between!)
Being genuine here, I love how titles are not clickbait, so much to the fact of where you will put something like “Not important” or “Of no use” and it still makes me really want to read it lol
Probably on your mind already, but I nominate this comment for Februrary: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chase-also-sending-out-1099s-for-referral-bonuses-1%c2%a2-per-point/#comment-716111
Good reminder to tag the OP on bank bonuses I guess… I didn’t realize the elements household rule was still unknown. I replied to a comment back in June 2018 when I saw the DP on reddit. Guess I should’ve also posted my DP separately when I also received the bonus for P2.
