Our Verdict
Decent discounts. These stack well with the AmEx Offer or Chase Offer deals for additional 10% off. I believe you’ll earn Best Buy rewards on gift card purchases as well, not sure if portals work on gift cards.
Just used at Amex offer in store ($25 off $250; also got $50 worth Uber gift cards) for 2 $100 Netflix gift cards and got 2 $15 Best Buy physical gift cards. Pleasant surprise

Shell is usually the highest priced gas nearby. Even with $5 off 50 and amex stack it’s still more expensive
YMMV. My closest Shell station is way overpriced, but a few miles away, it’s among the cheapest.
Not necessarily correct. It feels that way until you do the math. I always compare with Costco where the the price is the lowest in my area (3.6 now) vs Shell (3.90 now) and the difference it typical unless you have an outlier of a Shell gas where you do not want to ever go. There is always a 5 cents off to be had at Shell with Fuel Rewards which will thus make the difference 25 cents which is around 7%. Add 3% more to that for the 4% CB you get from Costco CC vs only 1% for Amex buying the Shell GC and that brings you to 9% savings at Costco.

Now just the 5 off 50 offer on Shell GC is 10% off which by itself beats the Costco 9% gains above by 1%. The Amex offer makes it even sweeter taking yet another 10% off. So your Shell would have to be more expensive than the lowest price gas in your area by 60 cents or more per gallon to really make it less worthwhile.

Unfortunately for me I dont have a convenient use of the $15 BB GCs yet and with Upside the return is more than 10% for my gas spend. Otherwise I would do this immediately and not buy amazon gcs.
