Update 4/3/22: Additional update I hadn’t been aware of: the Bilt card now offers primary rental car insurance coverage. (ht Nick from FM) And also $800 of cell phone insurance. And no foreign transaction fees.
Original Post:
The Bilt Rewards card is now out of beta and live for anyone to apply.

The highlight of the card is the ability to earn rewards on rent payments, up to 50,000 points per year, even if you landlord only accepts check or ACH payment. The card has no annual fee and comes with many top-notch travel partners where you can transfer points. It earns 3x on Dining, 2x on Travel, and 1x on all other purchases, including Rent payments. You can read more about the card in our reviews here and here.
Two interesting updates to Bilt:
- Bilt has now partnered with Wells Fargo to be the issuing bank of the card (a switch from the previous issuer Evolve Bank)
- Bilt is also offering a referral program whereby a member can refer 5 friends and get 25,000 bonus points if the friend uses the card within 30 days. You can get a maximum of 1M bonus points from referring.
NO REFERRAL LINKS IN THE COMMENTS BELOW. For now I’m not planning on creating a referral thread since there’s no bonus on this card and since it requires 5 referrals to get anything.
Has anyone tried to use the Car insurance benefit yet? Someone on reddit believes it may not actually be primary coverage: https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/comments/uwply1/fyi_bilt_mastercard_auto_rental_cdw_might_not_be/
This seems like good/bad news? Wells Fargo Online portal is decent enough I suppose, but does this make the BILT card subject to Wells Fargo rules like the 1/15 and 1/6 rules? Does the card now show up through Wells Fargo online account/managed there for payments, etc. Also, didn’t this card used to be a soft pull approval and hard pull after accepting an offer?
Can you confirm that the Wells Fargo version has Primary car insurance coverage?
My Bilt (Evolve) Works Elite MC is only showing secondary insurance coverage.
I couldn’t find it anywhere, just relied on what Nick said. If anyone can source this better please let us know
Apparently Wells Fargo advertises primary but the Bilt iOS app shows secondary
Wells Fargo already signed up for me haha likie my joke
I sent BILT an email asking whether it is possible for me to transfer my card account to Wells Fargo – “If you would like the Bilt Mastercard with our new partner, Wells Fargo, you would need to apply for the card with them. This would also require a new email and Bilt Rewards account as well.”
Is there a good reason to want this…?
Was approved and in the email there’s a bonus offer of 10k Points for 1k Spend – 90 days
These rewards definitely dont seem sustainable…but smoke it while you got it.
Bilt will shut you down for MS and is actively hunting down people for it. They will retroactively claw back points as well from 3+ months ago. Has happened to many so far.
^This. Don’t ever MS on this card! They’ll shut you down and close your account.
Hi,
Could you clarify the definition of ‘MS’ for this card? Are you referring to the ‘5 transactions per statement’ rule? For example, if I have 4 minor amazon balance reloads per cycle, is that grounds for them to flag my account?
Or is there a different spend requirement you are referring to.
I know we can’t be definite, just curious as to what you already know. As apart from rent, I have cards offering higher rewards on all other categories and would not want to spend on Bilt unless absolutely necessary.
Might as well mention trip delay/cancellation and theft protection while you’re at it. And while people are busy making the same hackneyed Wells Fargo jokes, no one seems outraged enough to point out that the widely popular Brian Kelly is a Bilt investor. Selective outrage at its best.
The cell phone coverage is old news from a year ago. It’s also only worth anything if you actually trash your phone.
