Our Verdict
Turns out effectively free membership after the $30 credit.
Can the credit be used on gas?
Does anyone know how long it will take for the $30 credit to activate? Will we be able to see the $30 credit in our account page? I just signed up and tried putting both a gift card and a product into my cart, but the $30 credit is not yet showing up.
Takes 24 hours to appear
Thanks. I checked back at 5:30 pm today, and there was popup when I signed onto the site telling me I had a $30 credit. I was able to add a Steam gift card to my cart, then applied the $30 credit during the checkout process. Easy peasy.
Does anybody know if the $30 credit had any restrictions? Can I just redeem it online with my next purchase?
I don’t have a BJs near me, but I’ve been getting one-day memberships to do some gift card orders, but if I can save myself the time and just pay $30 to get a credit I’ll get back, I will.
I believe this is the first time a BJ’s new member promotion has not excluded a Michigan location. (Madison Heights) Will verify as I signed up this morning.
Anybody churned BJ’s signup offers? I signed up in Jan with a different offer back then. I am wondering if just switching to a different email address would do the trick.
Avi Last year I did the offer and this year opened for my P2. P2 still needs to go to the store and get the actual card activated, for that they check ID. In past years I have let my subscription lapse and then re-signed up the following fall. Like expire January, re-sub in November. The terms say nothing about not having a membership prior. Strangely, they do say you can’t use the award to purchase gift cards, something I just did online yesterday.
Yes. Just use a different email address. To be extra safe you can go online and change your address for your current membership to something random & local. Or if you want your email address to be the same, change that too to something random or a non-regular backup email until that membership lapses, then change it to something random.
BJs is super lax about memberships, especially since you are buying a new membership here. Costco not so much. With this you are basically activating your membership and all online, and just stopping at the store to have a physical card printed. They have even printed cards for P2 for me on the spot without her present, they really don’t care.
Another tip: Wait on this offer to sign up until 1/1. That way you’ll get an extra month. If you signed up today, your membership would expire on 12/30…. BJs memberships expire end of the month you sign up in. If you do it beginning of the month you can get almost an extra month free.
Oh and be sure to de-activate auto renewal immediately. Sometimes their self checkout registers try to get you to agree to it on a screen after you scan your card, with a screen with a big OK that takes up half the screen, and a tiny check box with tiny print saying you authorize auto renewal at full price….
I don’t think they’re “super lax.” Received a solicited paper mail offer. Went to BJs and they denied me due to a past membership. My name was spelled incorrectly in their system but they went by my mailing address. This was years ago but I logged into the website today and see no way to change my mailing address or name to thwart them.
Since the new offer is totally online maybe I’ll try on 1/1 with a new email in case things have changed. (This worked for Sam’s Club last year.)
Well yea if you present them with a paper mailer with your address on it, they will look up that address and see that you already have a membership!
I meant if you purchase a membership online, pay for it, and simply go in-club and ask for a new card, they will print it on the spot since you already did the work of signing up for a membership. In that context, and for the deal in this article, they are lax.
I haven’t paid for a BJ’s membership in years, last year’s deal was a moneymaker, I think it was $30 for a membership and $10 in rewards over 6 months or something. Despite them saying the rewards don’t roll over month to month, I found that not to be the case, they did.
Also I found how to change your membership address in about 15 seconds on their website. You can easily do it.
Thanks. I’ll just go for it on 1/1.
Despite what you wrote I spent 17 seconds and still don’t see my old address in a profile and nothing under shipping addresses. Maybe they forgot I exist or it’s due to my nonmembership.
@Novacat05 Thank you so much that was really helpful!
I see most things are $8.99 to ship. Is this true with a membership? No free shipping?
The only free shipping stuff I found were gift cards to Panera. Steve
Thanks for confirming. So for those no where near one, you basically are banking on gift card deals unless the $8.99 shipping still makes whatever you buy a deal.
I love BJ’s!
This is not from me. Someone just used my email to post. This is not fun. William Charles Chuck
🙁 Sorry, we need logins for readers
Chuck Is that in the works? 😯
I’m confused, that person above isn’t using your email?
William Charles There was a reply to Jack’s post by someone who impersonated me. Chuck promptly deleted it after I reported it. My reply was to that deleted post. Without this context, it may look confusing.
Ah ok, thanks.
ShawntheShawn Did you use your email for a referral on a site anywhere?
Yes. And Chuck’s account was hacked recently. I hope that did not give the hacker access to everyone’s email.
On the contrary, the only BJ’s I don’t like is the wholesale store.
I forgot I had done this offer in early Dec, the credit was about to expire so paid for some gift cards with it and had them shipped. Thanks DOC.
DP, I was able to use this promo for one of the wholesale clubs listed as excluded. BJ’s issued the cards in store, and I was able to use the promotional money towards items inside the store as well.
No BJ’s in my area 🙁
