BlockFi has sent out an e-mail to account holders informing them of a data breach that occurred on May 14th, 2020 for about an hour.
- The following information was accessible: Name, Email Address, Date of Birth, Postal Address, Activity History.
- The following information was not accessible: Social Security Number, Tax Identification Numbers, Passports, Licenses, Passwords, Bank Account Information, Account Preferences, Photos uploaded for identification purposes
Many readers may have a BlockFI account due to a recent promotion. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, until the penalties for data breaches are increased we will continue to see them happen at an alarming rate.

Parks, beaches, restaurants and now data breaches. Thinks are returning to normal
Still surprised that people will hand over their personal information to some company for tiny bonuses. Once they have it, it’s open to selling, sharing, misuse and being stolen. Here’s $100, give us your financial info, we’ll give you some crypto currency. Here’s $150, give us your financial info and jump through a bunch of hoops. Here’s 1 share of stock, could be worth $1000!! People still fall for this stuff? Eventhough identity theft isn’t exactly a secret. The more companies that have your info, the more likely your info will fall into the wrong hands.
hope you never stayed at any hotel then ever
class action lawsuit time for us!!!! one cent for everyone!!! sooooo excited….
I’m down for a class action lawsuit. These scumbags want us to upload our ID just to change our e-mail address.
Oh really? Didn’t know that. I think the fact that email is the primary way that hackers try to change your account password and do damage, it makes sense that BlockFi is being more precautious on allowing a ton of account changes without additional verification.
