Our Verdict
This is a really good bonus, $100 with no requirements or monthly fees (or you can open a 5% account) unfortunately they are very Chexsystems sensitive so that is something to keep in mind. It’s also not clear if they will pull the promo online when they hit 400 new sign ups. If you don’t have many Chexsystems inquiries then I would recommend this. I imagine they will hit that 400 limit pretty quickly, but we will add it to the best checking bonuses with a warning about Chexsystems sensitivity.

the 4% interest is what interested me but the hoops you need to jump thru are crazy… no thanks.
This is pretty good credit card funding though if you ever need it. Will add this to my mayday list lol.
Except it isn’t. Says “Limited to $500”: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/blue-federal-credit-union-4-apy-account-15000/
Pretty sure it doesn’t matter what account you open from a bank in regard to CC funding.
If I’m wrong and there are recent datapoints of it showing to be significantly more, I’d love to get this account actually…
Apparently this deal is out since july 19
I got this account before I starting hitting the bank account bonuses a couple months back specifically for their 5% up to $1000 savings account:
https://www.bluefcu.com/everyday-banking/savings/accelerated-savings
I would also recommend hitting the Earn Five checking account and setting up a recurring small daily debit:
https://www.bluefcu.com/everyday-banking/checking/earn-five-checking
Combined this nets ~$60/yr for essentially no effort. Also this is one of the only banks that hasn’t spammed me with promotional materials after signing up and they have been very friendly and helpful with the limited interactions I have had with them. One of the few banks I would actually recommend for real banking.
The maximum credit card funding, however, is $500, not $3,000 unless it was changed in the last 2 months.
Understand the Accelerated Savings netting you $60/year. But what is the Earn Five Checking account giving you? Doesn’t seem very useful
From the Earn Five Checking page Toad linked to:
“Starting with your 6th debit card (point of sale) purchase, you will earn 5 cents each and every time you swipe your card. On the last day of each month, your rewards will be tallied up and deposited into a Blue account of your choice.”
The savings account alone can’t net $60/yr, it’s a hard limit at $1k in the account – if you go over even once in a month, you get NO interest that month. So you have to put less than $1k in the account so that each month’s interest doesn’t ruin the next month’s interest opportunity. The most you can put in it with enough room for a year’s interest, instead of having to bother moving around a few dollars each month, looks to be about $950, which gives you about $47 total interest for the year. So the rest of Toad’s $60 would come from those nickels on the checking account.
If you want to be really ambitious, in 2016 a commenter said he was doing 505 $0.01 transactions a month (automated somehow) to earn $25/month on an Earn Five account.
Same issue. Promo code is invalid.
Why are you adding this to best bonuses? It’s clearly dead. Get your shit together doc lately you’ve been slipping.
It’s almost like I wrote the post before it was dead.
Please don’t be so rude.
Unrelated to the checking bonus, but I have my auto loan through this CU, and they give you an option right on their website to pay via CC. There is a $10 fee, but it works well and it’s nice that it’s directly through them for CFU or AMEX BBP cards that already earn at a multiple.
