Bluebird sent out an email that four account features are being discontinued:
- You can no longer enroll in AmEx Offers
- You can not add any new Sub-accounts; existing accounts will remain
- You can not add new Goal sub-balances; existing Goal sub-balances will remain
- The Check writing feature will end on October 8, 2024
I’m not sure how many people still use Bluebird, and those newer to deal-chasing might not be familiar with the prepaid account at all. Brings back memories!
Similar set of changes also for serve accounts.
Missed those golden era….
Didn’t AMEX sell off Bluebird a few years ago as reported in this blog? If so, it appears that they agreed for a period of time to offer some AMEX perks and that period of time is up.
Lots of memories here. Who also remembers “red bird” another great Amex product that we killed. Ha ha.
I can’t believe Bluebird is even a thing, I thought we were like 90% of their users
I never understood why people would write checks against this account. Anybody ever do this?
I think that the prepaid accts are primarily aimed at ppl who can’t get a real bank acct.
I was closed down along with p2 and p3 years ago. I only deposited very few 200.00 VGC (5 per month) and paid bills via their bp system. Tried applying last year and denied. I have many Amex cards still. And we all still get statements every few months. crazy
Did they add insult to injury by having their system automatically hang up on you when you tried calling? That should really be illegal. They force you to write to them if you need to talk about a closed acct.
never called. it would be wasted time.
Fond memories indeed! I did some heavy (50kish) churning through them when I was a broken college grad. Thanks for helping me see the world Blue bird! And thanks to the skeptical cvs cashiers for not calling the cops on me for buying $1000 vanilla cards and a toothbrush or something random so that the balance was never the same lol
*broke
I don’t care about any of this except the amex offers. That will be missed. I routinely double dipped on offers using bluebird/serve. I had everyone I know getting a bluebird card to get the 50 off 50 inkind offer. Rip
Bluebird. What’s that?
Depends on who you’re asking. Apparently some ppl actually use it as a prepaid dc. Folks here probably used it solely for liquidating. They also would let you load cash onto it w your Amex cc. 😢
Ew brother ewww….whats that brother
Definitely brings back the fondest memories.
Btw, Bluebird is still useful for loading at FD…
Most of them limit loads to <$200 or are cash-only.
Ugh, annoying. I’m able to $500 daily no problem. Must be very location-dependent.
What is FD? These no logner load at PoS at other retailer?
