This bonus has now expired, you can view other checking bonuses that are still valid here.
Warning: The BMO Harris reps are pretty much useless, don’t bother calling them as they say stuff like it’s not a valid promotion and not hosted on their website (when it clearly is) people in the comments have reported getting the bonus without issue.
Update: Looks like the online application still isn’t working unfortunately.

Avoiding Fees
Your best option is to open the BMO Harris Everyday Checking ($10 monthly fee), the monthly fee is waived if you meet any of the following requirements:
- You receive an external deposit of $500 or more
- The minimum daily balance is $1,000 or more
- You’re a college student and you request a fee waiver. This will result in the account being fee free for a period of four years
- Your BMO Harris Select Checking® account meets its $10,000 minimum Combined Balance requirement, and you have requested we link this account to your BMO Harris Select Checking account to receive benefits under Relationship Waiver. Early Account Termination Fee
You need to keep your account open for a minimum of six months to keep the bonus, in addition to this if you closed it within 90 days you’ll be charged an additional $50.
Our Verdict
This is a great bonus and I recommended signing up when the bonus was only $150, now that it has been increased it’s an even better deal. Here is how I’d complete the deal
- Open the every day account, use a credit card to fund $1,000 (this will earn you credit card points and give you enough in the account to keep it fee free. You can see what credit cards have/haven’t coded as a cash advance here for BMO Harris)
- Set up a direct deposit of $300+ for four months, you can see what has worked as a direct deposit in the past here, you can also transfer money out of the account so your balance sits at $1,000 to avoid losing too much in interest.
- Wait for the bonus to post
- Wait six months, close account
One thing that’s nice about BMO Harris promos is that they can be churned (like the Chase checking bonuses). We’ve added this bonus to our list of recommended checking promotions and also our complete banking bonus database.
Hat tip to reader David
Do you really need to do direct deposits for four months? My DD is sent on a bi-weekly basis. It has been more than four deposits, and I have already received the $200 bonus. Do I need to continue to send DD for four months?

got my bonus as several of you have, has anybody attempted downgrading instead of leaving the 1k for fee free for the remaining days towards 6 months?
The expiration date of this offer has been extended to Feb 28 2017.
Thanks
ACH push from Ally codes as:
ACH DEPOSIT WEB ALLY BANK P2P
ACH Push from Discover codes as:
ACH DEPOSIT WEB DISCOVER BANK P2P
ACH Push from TD Ameritrade codes as:
ACH DEPOSIT PPD TD AMERITRADE ACH OUT
Since Ameritrade has ‘PPD’ instead of ‘P2P’, I’m going to try to use that a few times and see what happens.
Fingers crossed.
DP: Got the bonus. Credited the same day as the third TD Ameritrade push cleared, so I bet that’s what did it. Can’t say for sure if the pushes from Ally and Discover that were labeled as P2P worked… but I think not.

My statement cycles around the 16th of each month, so all three Ameritrade pushes were in two separate statement cycles but only one calendar month.
DP: As mentioned above, opened savings account online once checking was already open. CC funded $1000 to savings using Citi Double Cash. Counted as a purchase.
No bonus yet, about a month in, not that I would have expected it yet. Trying to use Discover and Ally ACH transfers to simulate direct deposit. Both post as “P2P” so I’m betting it won’t work. Might try Ameritrade too.
Checking was a hassle to open. In addition to a paper copy of my license, they wanted another scan of my license (paper one was cut off, I guess?), scan of my passport, and scan of a credit card for “signature verification”.
I better get the dumb bonus. At least I got the $20 from Citi for CC funding savings.
Fine print says for dates 9/1/16-10/31/16, only 2 DD of $300 needed within 90 days of acct opening.
DP: Oct 2016 – A couple months after opening my checking acct., I was able to CC fund a savings account online for the full $1000 opening deposit.
Chase Freedom Unlimited – It did not post as cash advance. CA limit was previously set to $20.

Above poster is right, only need 3 DD of $300. Great, easy deal.
I did not have any nightmares with this bank, opened in branch in Minneapolis while on vacation, took 30 minutes.
Only had trouble with the app and got locked out because I forgot my PW and had to call CS.
Solid bank in my short experience.
