Our Verdict
Reader Irene sent this one in, and I see this on my Bank of America card as well, maybe it’s showing for all BofA customers. Personally, I’m not planning on using it since other cards earn more even with the bonus. Others might have cards that become worthwhile for Groceries with this bonus or that they use anyway.
Note, again, you only get the bonus on your first Grocery transaction after saving the offer. Max it out with a single $250 purchase to get the full $5 back.
I had forgot about this, but one of my in-store walmart purchases triggered it.
Just wanted to get my understanding confirmed-
If you are on gold tier then this extra 2% + regular 2% grocery + 0.5% (Preferred rewards) so total 4.5%, correct ?
is a $250 gift card acceptable for the 2%?
“For Cash Back Online Shopping Offers”—-Is this an online offer?
No. Continue reading the sentence.
Effectively 5.5% back with Customized Cash card and Preferred Rewards Platinum status. Not bad.
Wouldn’t it be 7% with the Platinum tier? (Grocery 2% + 2% bonus) = 4% *1.75 =7%. Though you’ll be canabalizing your 3% catagory a little bit.
Amerideals don’t get bonus from Preferred Rewards, so this is really just extra 2% over the “regular” 3.5% grocery with Platinum Honors category. And yes, it’s cannibalizing the 3% category, so if you otherwise used all $2500 on it, this is really “just” a 0.25% bonus.
