Bread Cashback American Express: 2% Cashback Card

Comenity has launched a new credit card called ‘Bread Cashback American Express‘. Card earns 2% cash back on all purchases with no annual fee or foreign transaction fees. There is no signup bonus on the card.

As far as I know there is no way to trigger the shopping cart trick for this card. It also looks like Comenity / Alliance Data is now using Bread Financial as the consumer facing name.

Got an email that says:

Earn 10% back when you dine at local restaurants! Now through Dec. 31, 2024, enroll your Bread Cashback® American Express® Credit Card to earn 10% back at eligible small business restaurants (up to $15 in statement credits).

Simply enroll your Card below to get started and view eligible dining locations on the Shop Small Map. Terms apply.

The enroll link redirects to https://global.americanexpress.com/card-offers/detail?locale=en-US&offer=93428
which indicates it’s for American Express cards issued by third party financial institution only, which includes Bread Financial but not American Express issued cards.

So for this, it might actually be 12% in total since the 10% is additional from American Express and not Bread which already pays the 2%.

Yes, this is confusing, and not clear if you get the extra 1% on $10k in spend or just $3,333 in spend.

Applied from their home page https://d.comenity.net/ac/breadcashback/public/home when I was declined by Capital One, Citibank and Chase for their cards (my credit is good but not excellent anymore as I closed a bunch of cards I stopped using to shift all spending to the Chase Sapphire card for its signup bonus and because I mistakenly thought the 10% anniversary bonus was equivalent to 10% cash back; it’s not, it’s 0.10 so using the card for everyday purchases is like getting 1.1% cash back—my bad, I should have realized nobody is going to give that high of cashback, unless it’s for a signup bonus, they would lose too much money—so now I needed a card for everyday spending again). Wasn’t approved right away; got a letter in the mail stating they needed to confirm some information before considering my application. After a rep verified my phone, address and birthdate (didn’t ask about salary/employer) I was approved.

Got an email about the signup bonus but unlike Chase and Citibank they DON’T show a progress bar anywhere after you login showing your spending going toward the signup bonus. Nowhere, in fact, does it show that you are participating in the signup bonus. But after $1K in charges, the signup bonus was automatically added to the 2% cashback total I had earned. As Al below says, you have to call Customer Service to redeem to your checking account. The rep told me it takes 5-7 business days. Overall very happy with this card because your cashback posts as soon as your transaction posts and it can be redeemed right away, no minimum withdrawal amount, and you’re not waiting until the end of your billing cycle to get it like with Chase and Citibank, and it’s a straight 2% cash back from purchases (not like with Citi Double Cash card), plus I got approved when the other banks who I had long histories with wouldn’t approve me because I dropped their cards a year ago (thinking Chase Sapphire was giving 10% cash back after a year of charges, LOL).

Update: direct deposit of cash back posts in 1 billing cycle after your call to customer service to request it. For some reason they only sent around $222 (I had $200 sign-up bonus + about $50 cash back) so I just redeemed the rest online in increments ($0.36, $1, $5, $10), one after the next, as statement credits because I don’t know if they would have had me wait another billing cycle to get the rest as direct deposit.

Statement credits post the next day at midnight (it doesn’t show it under Latest Transactions until hours later but the Current Balance updates correctly and clicking on Review Rewards shows it).

Junk-Card !! Need to Call customer Service over the phone every single time if you want to redeem your rewards as cash back to your checking account!!! Imagine that !! Retarded.!! This clearly shows how cheap they are !!

The bad part is the long process as they send you to security to approve the request too. But the other way to do it is to redeem to the account as statement credit and then just email and request a credit balance refund check which was what I did for the 2nd card.

Received the pre approved letter with $200 for 1k spend.

Applied with Experian and Equifax both locked and unlocked Transunion but got this:
“We Appreciate Your Interest We’re reviewing the information you gave us. We’ll mail you about the status of your request within 10-14 business days.”

from what I can find online, it just means the letter will say to call them and they will approve after asking credit report identity questions. If that is the case then I might get away without a HP.

they sent a letter asking to unfreeze 4 files: experian, equifax, innovis consumer assistance, and sagestream/lexisnexis.

after unfreezing, need to wait for business day to call the number provided. they pulled my report from experian, state: VA. approved instantly for less then 8k with score between 780 and 806.

Probably through the Amex Connect site, but I don’t have the card, so I cannot say for sure.
