Our Verdict
Apparently they are ChexSystems sensitive (although this suggests otherwise). We will add this to our best bank bonus page.

Anyone tried opening money market/certificate account and funded them with credit card? The funding limit is high for those two accounts.
Funded $500 each for checking and saving with amex platinum. Coded as purchase

The OOFP membership option of donating $10 to Guardians of the City (discussed in several previous comments) no longer appears.
There is still the option of joining CSFA as an associate member having “an interest in the fire service” but the dues are $85.
RIP… Immediate family members of members can still sign up. But, I’m pretty sure they’ve had enough of us.
Now at least people won’t waste a Chex inquiry on this place getting denied.
Did you see my reply to you in the other post about this promo? Did you end up applying before they removed that donation option?
He did
Patoot,
Am I correct that you are replying to my 1st question? If so, are you implying that Diego purposely did not respond to my comment in the other post even though he only found out about this bonus because of me?
Diego A new option appeared for OOFP, joining community impact fund at no cost
Did you apply? Now the only hurdle is ever getting low enough Chex stats to actually get approved.
Not yet. It is in my watchlist. I got two chex hits this month, need to wait for the right time
i got an interesting call today from SFFIRECU looking for feedback on offering a member’s referral program. ive been happy enough with the bank that i already refer people. but it would be nice to get a bonus too!
You cannot refer anyone if they cannot get approved.

Lefty,
I just checked and this offer now expires in June. That’s not terribly surprising since so few people have reported being approved.
Are you still going to have your P2 apply this month?
Waiting until March to get cleaner Chex stats.
P2 got declined again after applying yesterday. Decided to apply early before realizing Connexus doesn’t pull Chex. May try again in 2-3 months because I like pain like Gadget. Received email notification of adverse action.
Chexsystem score 748
Stats: 0/1, 0/2, 3/3, 4/4, 8/6, 16/12
Previous app:
Stats: 2/1, 3/2, 6/3, 7/4, 10/6, 19/12
Lefty,
That’s rough. It’s incredible how Chex-sensitive that they now are. Jay - ⒿⒶⓨ 🙈 🙉 🙊 might be the last person on DoC to ever get approved with them.
He ended up costing a lot of people a Chex inquiry. He should be very proud of himself!
Just wanted to add some information I gleaned from applying with Chex frozen. To be considered they look at a 6 month Chex window and you need to be at 5 or less inquiries. Hope this helps someone save an inquiry
Daniel,
I’m surprised that the rep was so candid with you. Those strict requirements would eliminate almost everyone on DoC so it’s no surprise that people are getting declined left and right.
Lefty,
Are you still going to try with your P2 today?
Guessing P2 will have to wait assuming this information from Daniel is valid. Hopefully they’ll extend the deadline to apply past 2/29/2024. They must have tightened the requirements because P1 was way over that many inquiries when opened in August 2023.
Manually reviewed applications are a mixed bag. Reps make mistakes. An example of different reps, different styles: My P2 and I had different adverse action messages – one was inside a secure portal, and the other was plain email.
A couple years ago I saw Chartway FCU email my P2 saying the account was approved…and minutes later try to retract the email (like that would work), and then send the adverse action. You got lucky.
The more of the DoC crowd that tries gives them much more practice in learning the Chex denial process. Lefty
So I am going to eat crow on this one so to speak. I looked at my adverse reaction document from them and they did not mention a number. I apologize for my error. Was not intended to mislead anyone. Sometimes all the experiences just blend together. On a side note I have actually had conversations with some banks/CU’s having Chex frozen. I will tell them how many inquiries I have in 3 months and ask if that would disqualify me. If they are hesitant or say yes….than I walk away. If more positive I tell them I will unfreeze and let them know I will contact them when its available to be pulled. As in all “games” just trying to find the best approach.
Daniel,
So are you saying that you confused your experience with Fire with some other FI? What did the adverse letter say?
Lefty,
Since Daniel retracted his comment, I think it’s possible that Fire only looks in the past 3 months or so. Are you going to try with your P2 now?
That’s correct. At times I have too many things going on at once. My apologies. It was pretty generic. Boxes checked were: Unable to open checking at this time and Not eligible for membership in this credit union. Than it lists Chex as the bureau they used. This is similar to other FI that I have applied for with Chex frozen. So as it was an automatic denial for me I do not plan to apply even with it unfrozen.
Yes P2 will apply this week. Will let you know what happens.
