Bonus is for select employer groups only, it does list Financial Fitness Association so it might be possible to join that way but don’t think you’d be eligible for the bonus.

The Offer
- TechCU is offering a $500 bonus when you open a new checking account and complete the following requirements for six consecutive months:
- receive $1,500 or more in direct deposits (excluding bank-to-bank transfers) in any account
- post at least 5 debit card transactions
The Fine Print
- Available to employees and contractors of member companies.
- To qualify for $500, open a new Tech CU checking account by 06/30/2025 and, for six consecutive calendar months, (1) receive $1,500 or more in direct deposits (excluding bank-to-bank transfers) in any account and (2) post at least 5 debit card transactions.
- The first direct deposit and first five debit card transactions must be posted within the first two calendar months after account opening.
- For example, if your opening date was 7/1/24, you would need to have received direct deposits of at least $1,500 and posted 5 debit card transactions by 8/31/24.
- A $500 credit will post to the checking account and be available for withdrawal on the first of the month following the last month of all requirements being fulfilled.
- If the checking account is closed less than 6 months after account opening, or the required minimum transactions are not completed, the $500 account credit and any dividends will be forfeited.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Offer valid only for individuals who open new checking accounts and are in good standing. Offer not available on Health Savings Accounts or Business Accounts. Rates and terms subject to change without notice.
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
This account has no monthly fees to worry about.
Early Account Termination Fee
Account needs to be kept open for six months
Our Verdict
Good bonus but shame the requirements need to be met for six months. Might be difficult to get approved as well.

Instant denial due to Chex (LOL/24)
Boise area offer that has the same terms. I’ll try in branch later https://www.techcu.com/Idaho/Grand-Opening-Offers
J2🤓
what is the advantage to try in a branch?
There are some FIs (ie Flagstar, Valley) that are less Chex-sensitive in-branch than online.
5 * 6 =30 debit card transactions for this promo.
Quite a bit of work here.
instant denial. works for the member company though
Is it a hard requirement of an employee of those companies in order to be eligible for the $500 promotion? I am at step 1 and it shows the following? Does that mean the application only needs to meet one of the 3 below?
Tell us which one of these applies to you. *
I am employed by a Tech CU member company or I am a member of an affiliated organization: I live, regularly work, regularly worship or currently attend school in one of the following counties: I am related to or live with a current Tech CU member:
The terms that you provided show “Tell us which one of these applies to you” so you only need to meet 1 of the 3 requirements to qualify to be a member of the CU.
However, I just glanced at the offer terms and it shows “*Available to employees and contractors of member companies.” so if you don’t work for any of those companies, you would not qualify for the bonus. However, it’s always possible that it won’t be enforced.
thanks for the clarification
Applied online and denied. Called customer service and they cited chex. Went into branch and was approved after manager override. Pretty heavy chex, they saw the 30 almost inquiries in the last 2 years. About 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, 13/12. Work for one of the employers in the list and they mentioned making an exception for my case
This is a good one for you. Bay area and Boise mentioned.

Yep I’ve had accounts with them over the years. Don’t see any anti churning language. Might try
Are employees of member employers but out of CA, TX, ID eligible for the bonus
I fit this category and just applied, but was denied due to Chex
They’re chex sensitive imo. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/banks-credit-unions-chexsystems-inquiry-sensitive/#comment-2014066
what were your recent chex counts, did they cite any particular number/timeframe to be under?
They immediately sent me a decline email with:
Your Chexsystems score: 0818
Scores range from a low of 100 to a high of 899
Is it worth calling to ask them to reconsider?
I think it’s worth trying if you can go to a branch.
Would you share roughly how many chex pull you have in the last 3, 6, and 12 months?
818 is quite high, it’s got to be recent inquiries or something. Any info you can share would be great
You have a really high score. Do you not apply to many accounts?
Yes, I am in WA and was approved 15 days ago. They asked about my recent chex pull from other banks.
