The Discover it Secured card has the same rewards program as the Discover it Chrome:
- 2% cash back at restaurants or gas stations (up to $1,000 in combined purchases each quarter)
- 1% cash back on all other purchases
At the end of your first year they’ll also match all of the cash back you’ve earned. Reader Abe let us know that it’s actually possible to get the rewards program that the Discover it offers simply by requesting it:
I signed up for the Discover Secured Credit card back in July. The rewards program are like the Discover It Chrome card. I called them up before receiving my card to find out if I could switch the rewards program to the Discover It 5% Cash Back rotating categories, they said yes but after the first billing cycle.
I got in contact with them via chat after my first billing cycle and they did switch my rewards program. This is great since I also got the Cash back match promotion when I signed up for the card. The only thing that I should have look into is access to a referral link for the $50 signup bonus which I missed.
The Discover it’s reward program is as follows:
- 5% cash back on rotating categories
- 1% cash back on all other purchases
I assume it’s probably also possible to get matched to the Discover it Miles rewards program as well (1.5% cash back on all purchases). The Discover it Secured card is the best secured card on the market (no annual fee and a rewards program that is actually useful is so much better than the rest of the competition it’s not even close), the ability to upgrade to an even better rewards program is just one extra benefit.
